Christian Science What is Christian Science? Who is Mary Baker Eddy? Where does Christian Science come from? Is Christian Science like Scientology? What are Christian Science beliefs? Why are we here and where do we go when we die? These question may be raised when you hear Christian Science. Christian Science is unique in its own way, it may not seem all that amazing like other religions but Christian Science is truly amazing over all. Some people refer to Christian Science as non-Christian or an a cult, but that’s not true. Christian Science is a religion that formed more slowly than other religions but is still a good religion. Christian Science is a religion that lets you understand God, Jesus Christ, good from evil, salvation, life and death, and more. “Anyone can find God to be ‘a very present help in trouble’” (Ps. 46:1 quoted in “What is Christian Science?”). In every religion there is a heart that holds it together and for Christian Science that would be love and all the feelings you get from God. Christian Science is a religion that mainly focuses on healing, that is what the practice and work on, their healing skills. People who are Christian Scientist work on their healing so they can be more like God, God is able to cure any illness, sin, illnesses and even death. Christian Science was founded by Mary Baker Eddy, Massachusetts USA 1879. In 1866 Mary Baker Eddy started studying and went on for many years. By 1875 Mary Baker Eddy published a book called, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This book told about healing and science, this book is used a holy text. When God healed people the way he did “Mary Baker Eddy said, ‘these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural...’” ... ... middle of paper ... ... that truly exists, nothing else. There is no death, because humans are immortal spirits. Christian Science is a religion that lets you understand God, Jesus and everything. Christian Science was founded in1879 by Mary Baker Eddy, who studied health and science. Her book she wrote “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” is used as one of Christian Sciences sacred texts. Christian Science does not have anything to do with Scientology, they are completely different religions. Christian Scientist believe in an all-powerful God and the authority and inspiration of the Bible, and think of God as principle, soul, mind, spirit, life, truth, and love. Christian Scientists believe that we are not real, Heaven and Hell don’t exist, to believe that everything is real is an error. There is no death because we are immortal spirits, God is the only one that truly exists.
After reading a few of the chapters in "Psychology Through the Eyes of Faith", I feel as if I have learned more in one sitting than many in years of my life. The chapters were not life altering, but simply stated things that I have overlooked. The topics that affected me most were on living with the mysteries of faith, benefits of true rest, and the emotion of happiness. Yes, they are really in no way related, but each of these topics impacted me in a different way, and made me think about what was being presented.
Science and religion are subjects that can answer some questions but not all. Science is defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “knowledge about or study of the natural world based on facts learned through experiments and observation.” Religion is based on faith, but no one can describe a feeling and beliefs as evidence because it cannot be proven. The key word is facts, and the facts are concluded by experiments and observations. The view of a person can be a factor in how they define science and religion. The view can become narrow for some if siding with one. The two subjects are different and cause controversy, which is a cause for them to be in different classrooms.
The church of Scientology has been the subject of controversy since its inception. Its methods and beliefs have attracted the attention of scholars from around the world. The church has been under government investigation and has endured a countless amount of lawsuits (Reitman 14). It is also a hot topic by the media with several endorsements by some of the most recognized Hollywood celebrities. However, the main topic of debate regarding the Church of Scientology is its status as a religion. Some members claim that the church has helped them overcome their struggles and that they are happier people, while others condemn it as a dangerous cult (Sweeney). The church of Scientology is a religious group whose purpose is to retain their members with the promise of spiritual enlightenment. Its controversial history, beliefs, and practices reveal the church’s commitment to keep its members.
Scientism is the view that knowledge of reality should only be gained or is best gained through the scientific process or research. This statement though sounds logical; it implies that something cannot be known or believed if it is not scientifically gained knowledge. Scientism is not science; it is a view about knowledge. Scientific statements are facts, but statements of facts cannot explain moral and ethical judgments that evaluate facts claims as being good or bad. It is therefore important to distinguish between scientific claims (90% of Americans think racism is wrong) and values (racism is wrong). Science forms a part of ethical or ought statements but these statements goes beyond what science offers. Not making this distinction leads to the fallacy of obtaining an ought from an is. Relativism is another viewpoint that upholds that there is no concept such as “the ultimate truth” and every belief or knowledge is relative to how it is perceived by an individual or culture. For, example things that Americans value or prioritize like independence or equality might be irrelevant in another culture. The adverse effects of concepts such as scientism and relativism has led to nonscientific claims being trivialized in the healthcare system. However new interest has been generated in spirituality in the healthcare system and Duke University has formed a center in 1998 to promote religion and spirituality in health through research (Grand Canyon University, 2015). This in my opinion is a much needed venture resolve these tensions as the Bible reminds us that in the last days even the elect may be
“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” ― Albert Einstein. According to the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, religion could be defined as, “an interest, a belief, or an activity that is very important to a person or group”. In other word a religion could mean a belief in a supernatural controlling power. In todays society there are many well renowned religions such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The main thing that all of these above mentioned religions have in common is that they serve as guides on how one should live their life. On the other hand many people started to question religions and their stories. Which in turn led to many individuals becoming atheist. According to the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, atheism is defined as, “a disbelief in the existence of deity”. Basically atheism is the belief that a supreme overlord does not exist. Let’s forget about atheism and concentrate on religions. There are many religions beside the big three that many people don’t know about. Many may not believe this but scientology is considered a religion. A science fiction author named L. Ron Hubbard created the religion, which is now known as scientology. Hubbard was born on March 13th, 1911 in Tilden, Nebraska. He later attended George Washington University, where he studies engineering and molecular physics. From 1934 to 1936 Hubbard started to write novels and gained much success in 1937. On 29th of March 1941, L. Ron Hubbard earned his Master of Sail Vessels license for Any Ocean. Three months later, he is commissioned as Lieutenant of the United States Navy Reserve. With United States involvement in the Second World War, Lieutenant Hubbard was dispatched to Australia. After a couple years in ...
Scientology was founded in 1954 based on the religious teachings of L. Ron Hubbard an American science fiction author. At first Hubbard's books were looked at as a new way to accomplish mental healing. The practicing of Scientology is f...
Scientology is a religion that was created in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard. Scientology teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature, and aims to bring humans back to that nature. (What is scientology, 4) This religion aims to give you tools and ways to find out more about who you are as an individual. Scientology has since grown into a world wide organization/religion. Due to the fact that it is a newer religion they do not have any branches (Scientology.org, Official Church of Scientology: Beliefs & Practices) so this paper will discuss scientology as a whole. One of the most interesting things about this very complex religion is that you can be both Scientologists and another religion. Scientoligest can often relate most to the ideas of Budidsum but are open to you being any religion that you choose. (Kuchman, May 14)

The Scientology religion deals with the human spirit and its relationship to the universe and its Creator. It teaches that its fundamental laws of life, when used, help people gain a happier and more fulfilling life. Scientology teaches many different methods that soon help with dealing with different life situations and personal belonging. It gives people another way of life. It attempts at bringing joy into peoples lives by being more of a personal counselor then anything else. It gives another way to help you with your life problems with giving people confidence once again in themselves . Some techniques are used to aid in the fights against drugs, crimes, and immorality. This religion is more of something that someone does, its not just a bunch of beliefs that people just learn and live by.
Many people have heard of the revolutionary new religious practice called Scientology. However, the majority of people who have heard of it, have little knowledge of the principles and practices behind the religion. In fact, there is a dark side behind Scientology, and much speculation that the religion is a brainwashing cult. Many people are opposed to the religion because of its secretiveness, its extreme methods of teaching and its alleged use of mind control.
If viewed from the perspective of a Christian Scientist, the death of a child could also been seen as a message from God. Many parents believe that losing their child and having them go to be with God is a much better alternative than disobeying the bible and receiving medical treatment. Those who practice the Christian Science faith believe what they are doing is completely right in the eyes of God...
Many historical figures have shaped the way we live today. We look back as a society and learn from their mistakes and achievements that have made them who they are and always will be. Most importantly, we never forget what has made them so special in our minds. Mary Baker Eddy was one of the many who made history because of her great deeds and accomplishments. Nonetheless, she is not famous to many people because of what she was, but she is famous for what she has left our world. The greatest individuals are those who leave their work for others to discover.
The Scientific Christians religion was founded and discovered in the nineteenth century by Mary Baker Eddy. She described it as "the law of God, the law of good". In the Christian Science faith by god is the infinite love and it is believed that through prayer anything can be healed and restored. At a young age Mary Baker Eddy looked for the answer in human suffering. She experienced a critical injury and tried to gain her health back through many therapeutic theories of that time period, things such as "homeopathy; the curing of disease by the internal and external use of water, and hydropathy; treating disease by drugs, given in minute doses, that would produce in a healthy person symptoms similar to those of the disease, and Graham’s dietary systems; feeding the body fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains". There was no improvement so she looked to the bible for answers and prayers. She was able to get up with no help and walk around the room. She surprised her friends. She told them that her prayer had worked. Her health improved in the months ahead. Baker being able to move across the room changed her life. Mary Baker saw that spiritual healing was based on Divine laws of God, Spirit, and these laws could help heal human suffering and
At first glance, many facets of science and religion seem to be in direct conflict with each other. Because of this, I have generally kept them confined to separate spheres in my life. I have always thought that science is based on reason and cold, hard facts and is, therefore, objective. New ideas have to be proven many times by different people to be accepted by the wider scientific community, data and observations are taken with extreme precision, and through journal publications and papers, scientists are held accountable for the accuracy and integrity of their work. All of these factors contributed to my view of science as objective and completely truthful. Religion, on the other hand, always seems fairly subjective. Each person has their own personal relationship with God, and even though people often worship as a larger community with common core beliefs, it is fine for one person’s understanding of the Bible and God to be different from another’s. Another reason that Christianity seems so subjective is that it is centered around God, but we cannot rationally prove that He actually exists (nor is obtaining this proof of great interest to most Christians). There are also more concrete clashes, such as Genesis versus the big bang theory, evolution versus creationism, and the finality of death versus the Resurrection that led me to separate science and religion in my life. Upon closer examination, though, many of these apparent differences between science and Christianity disappeared or could at least be reconciled. After studying them more in depth, science and Christianity both seem less rigid and inflexible. It is now clear that intertwined with the data, logic, and laws of scien...
