When most people think about the state Nevada, they think about gambling, fast weddings and easy divorces, prostitution and twenty four hour a day drinking. Reno and Las Vegas have capitalized on these markets and use them to attract tourist into their casinos. One town in Nevada attracts tourist for a completely different reason. Just a short 2 hour drive from Las Vegas the town of Rachel Nevada pulls in tourist hoping to catch a glance of something extraterrestrial.
Rachel is the newest town in Nevada. Before the town was named Rachel it was called Tempiute Village but was also called Sands Springs Valley. It was a public land until D.C Day and a few other farmers turned it into private land for homesteading. To obtain the land the men had to successfully farm a portion of the land for a certain number of years. The men decided to grow mainly alfalfa along with corn and sugar beets. Even though the cost of keeping the farm running was high compared to the payout price for the crops D.C Day did eventually get a title for 4000 acres. Day had to find investors to keep the farm going so he formed a corporation and found and investor in Dallas. The investment fell through when the investor died from having a sheep's blood transfusion. So D.C. Day decided that the best solution was dividing his land into some house lots. The Union Carbide reopened the Lincoln Mine in 1976. With the mine opened D. C Day had the starting of a real town. In 1976 Day and J.R. Robinson built a trailer park and all power came from expensive generators. It wasn't until after Mel Brown Company bought some land from Day that the town had any power in 1978. The first child born was Rachel Jones. She was born in a mobile home on Feb. 15, 1978. The birth was s...

Today I am going to be explaining how the three different point of views or P.O.V the narrators in three different stories all about unfairness to the miners during the gold rush or the late eight-teen-hundreds though. Mainly I'm going to be mentioning the character's narrators background, family, and their opinions. For opinions I'm going to be talking about if they thought the rules where to strict or just right.

For many years, cultivating plantations and slavery have been very big topics in the state of Louisiana’s history. The book, Rachel of Old Louisiana, by Avery O. Craven deals with the life of a woman who herself is a plantation owner who owns slaves in the early 1790s and late 1840s. In this work of literature it is displayed the pure drive and determination of Rachel O’Connor despite the things she goes through in life.

Ever look up at the sky and just wonder if there is life anywhere else? Have you seen anything in the sky that is almost unexplainable? What if your thoughts really came true? The thought of the existence of aliens seems to have been around since the beginning of time. There is one incident in particular that really hits home when talking about the subject, the UFO incident of Roswell, New Mexico.
The location of Area 51 isn’t exactly hard to find, this place can be found roughly 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada, and even a quick search in google will give you the exact coordinates and location of the facility. However, it’s still surrounded by a high-level of security, nobody is allowed to drive, fly or walk near this area, which is the main reason why the general public is curious and suspicious of the activity at area 51. Rumors of UFO’s crash landing, alien captures and covers ups only fuel the conspiracy theories. Area 51 has become synonymous with conspiracies, UFO’s and Aliens.
Lena Lingard is the best example of a non-domestic central character which appears amidst the domesticity of My Ántonia. Often the sections which feature Lena instead of Ántonia are seen as confusing divergences from the plot line of a novel that purports to be about the woman named in the title. However, since Lena appears in the novel almost as often as Ántonia, and more often than any other character except Jim, she is a central character. Lena is a working woman who refuses to accept the constraints society places upon her. Even when society predicts that by becoming a dressmaker instead of marrying she will fail and become a "loose" woman, she disrupts their expectations and succeeds.

Catalina is a unique place since it has developed infrastructure and have resources to exploit that enable people to live in it. This unique characteristic attracts many people every year to enjoy different ranges of activities. Tourism is the only industry that Catalina has to the economy to fluctuate (“Visit Catalina Island.” 2014). Since the only income for Catalina Island has historically been tourism, the market has been exploited to be able to sustain the towns and enable further development. Both of the towns depend on tourism to survive, however this does not mean that they are similar. According to 2010 Census of Bureau the approximate population of Catalina was 4,096. Avalon had a population of 3,569 and the rest of the population is, Two Harbors and the Catalina Island Conservancy (337.37 km2), 527 (U.S. Census, 2011; “Visit Catalina Island,” 2014). As it can be observe, the amount of resident from each town is significantly different, and the major concentration is in Avalon. This points out that Avalon is a larger city not only demographically but also in population that may drive more people to visit.
The Roswell incident is one of the most publicized and well-known accounts of a possible UFO crash in the world. Perhaps the greatest evidence that a UFO did indeed crash near Roswell, is the wide scale military cover up that took place after the crash. This along with numerous eyewitness accounts of the crash site, prove that what ever happened in the summer of 1947, was certainly not a normal occurrence.
Throughout Las Vegas history, Vegas have grown in tourism and residency to become more well known. From gambling clubs to casino and resorts, Las Vegas has grown to a little town to a big, bright city to the“Sin City”. If all the laws and mafias that collaborated with the casinos and gambling clubs did not happen back then, our community of Las Vegas would not be as popular as we are today.
Almost everyone in the United States has heard about the small town of Roswell, New Mexico, primarily because of its connections with UFO’s. This crash site became one of the most credible and well known UFO crashes ever. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the U.S military initially reported that they had, in fact, recovered a crashed flying saucer. It was all over the newspapers and radio stations, declaring that the military had recovered a flying disk. Later, the military retracted that statement, saying that it was actually just a misidentified weather balloon, and the news that the military retracted their statement was even larger news than the crash was. (Marshall, Brian) The second thing that made the crash site more controversial is the way the military controlled the evidence. The military collected every single piece of debris from the crashing site and they even took all the evidence that rancher had collected, leaving nothing behind.
...tion’s worst and stem from the fact that the state is host to a wide range of tourists who visit Las Vegas. The next time you visit Nevada for some gambling fortune, it won’t be a bad idea to take some security precautions too.
The Roswell Incident, which enlightened our minds to the capacity of excepting all, has remained one of the most controversial issues today. In Roswell, New Mexico, 1947, a strange occurrence arises. An alien craft from outer space crashed in an open field. The issue lay still for almost thirty years, until the thought of a government cover-up arose.
...r – “By the end of the decade, there was a casino in-sight from every point in the city.” A record 15 million people visited Las Vegas in 1971, and an estimated 81% of those tourists gambled during their time in Vegas – an obvious effect of Hughes’ massive investments in casinos. By 1974, gaming revenue topped $1 billion, and just below 50% of Nevada’s state budget was supported by gaming taxes. Hughes was able to drastically increase the size and attraction of the city, making it more profitable, tourist friendly and glamorous. None of this would have been possible without the gaming industry to lure Hughes towards the city – once again gambling played a lead role in the growth of Las Vegas. The industry’s growth continued at a torrid pace, until the legalization of gambling in other states made the future of the city’s gaming industry murky.
