“Walt Disney”
Did you know the “Man behind the Magic” was fired from his local newspaper for not being creative enough? This has proved Walt has had a huge impact on kids. When times were rough, Walt Disney still seemed to bring a smile to children’s faces all over the world. Walt Disney is one of the most influential men of our time. His creative mind has brought laughter and joy to many children. While, Walt had many struggles through his life; this brought him to make cartoons and open two of the most famous amusement parks in the world.
Walt was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. Walt grew up on a farm, with 2 elder brothers and a younger sister. Soon the farm had failed and they decided to then move to Kansas City, Missouri, where Walt started delivering News Papers at the age of 10. Both, Walt’s brothers had left to join the War, Herbert and Raymond. Walt was stuck at home caring for his family. Walt’s father, Elias, was diagnosed with Typhoid leaving Walt to take care of his family alone. Walt took night classes at an art school while he was still in High School (Mattern 10). At the age of 17, Walt dropped out of high school to become an ambulance driver during World War I without his parents’ consent (Cole 21).
Walt returned home and was soon questioned by his father what his future plans would be. Walt replied with “I want to become an artist” (Cole 22). Walt, with extreme determination, tried to work as a cartoonist with Kansas City newspapers, but they thought Walt was not creative enough. Walt applied at the Pesmen-Rubin Commercial Art Studio in the Gray Advertising Building. Walt received his first job as an artist. “Disney did the drawings for his ca...

...his career. When something came in his path, he jumped over it. Walt, today, still continues to put a smile on children’s faces all over the world. Walt provided children and even adults with cartoons during rough times, adding happy memories when they were much needed. With Walt’s amusement parks, children today are still making happy memories and ones that shall never be forgotten. “The Man behind the Magic” will always be remembered, so next time you watch a cartoon, just think all that was done for you to be able to watch it.

Before his death in 1966, he purchased the land for Disney World in Florida.
