Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901. He was the fourth son of Elias and Flora Call Disney. He had three brothers, Herbert, Raymond, and Roy; he also had one sister, Ruth. He spent most of his childhood life on a farm in Marceline, Missouri. When they had to sell the farm because of their dad's illness they went to Kansas City. He attended school in Kansas City and then went to Chicago, where he and Walter Pfeiffer worked together to on plays and skits, and later staged and directed plays. For six years he worked as a newspaper boy and delivered newspaper throughout the whole year. After six years of that job a boy came up to him and said "There's sumpin' just forming here that you and I can get in." Walt said, "What is it?" the boy then said, "An ambulance unit."(Miller, 12) They then went down and signed up, and then they were off to France. While they were in France, their job included of transporting of personnel supplies. On the side of the ambulance they drove, there was a doughboy which he used a lot in is cartoons. After the ten months Walt was in this job he left and went back home because everybody had left that he knew and it was very lonesome. After he came back to Chicago from France, he told his dad, "Dad, I want to be an artist." Although his dad did not like the idea, Walt went back to Kansas City and got a job animating. While he was in Kansas City he was thinking and wanted to try something new. "If I had something with a novel to twist to it, I might crack the market."(Miller, 14) He spent nights working on different things to try. He then brought a young actress to the cartoon world, Virginia Davis; she would be playing Alice from Alice and Wonderland. He took a real person and put her into the drawing. Even though, Walt Disney had many struggles he had many great things happen in his life. For example, in the past years he has won 61 movie awards. Walt Disney sadly died on December 15, 1966. He was unable to see his dream come to life. "Walt Disney lives in the hearts of people around the world to whom he has brought joy and laughter and the conviction that when you truly believe, dreams do come true." Walt Disney once said "All our dreams come true if we have to courage to pursue them." I believe that Walt Disney's legacy will live on and that his dreams did come true even though he did not get to see it happen. Even though Walt Disney had many struggles had got past them and now look at what he has accomplished.
Walt Disney had many accomplishments in his lifetime. In 1932 he won an Academy Award for "Flowers and Trees" in the best cartoon category. It was the first of 48 Academy Awards, which Disney would win in his celebrated life. Walt Disney also received more then 950 honors and citations from all nations along with seven Emmys. When “Steamboat Willie” came out for the first time on September 19,1928, Mickey and Minnie Mouse were born. Walt Disney Studios was a hit. Then, when the first full-length movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was released in 1937 it broke all box-office records and Walt Disney Studios became well known nationwide. But that was just the beginning for Disney. He has more then fifty full-length movies out today. (DeAngelo NP) In 1955 Disneyland opened when Walt was 55 years old. He would not stop there. Before his death in 1966, he purchased the land for Disney World in Florida. Even though Walt was unable to see the happy faces on the people as they walked into Walt Disney World for the first time, he knew that he made all of us very happy.

On December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Elias and Flora Disney gave birth to a 4th son Walter Elias. In 1906 the Disney family relocated to Marceline, Missouri, where Walt found interest in drawing and painting pictures as well as starting his entrepreneurship journeys by marketing his works to friends, family and neighbors. In 1911 financial pressures and health stresses for Elias required him to sell their farm and transfer to Kansas City. Here Walt and his brother Roy helped their family financially by delivering newspapers. In addition to Walt assisting on the newspaper routes he attended Benton Grammar school and on the weekend attend the Kansas Art Institute to cultivate his creative skills. Shortly after Walt graduated from Benton Grammar School, the family moved back to Chicago, where Walt attended high school and joined the school newspaper staff contributing by drawing cartoons for it. Walt attended McKinley High School for a brief time before deciding to join the Red Cross Ambulance Corps. In 1919 Walt moved back to Kansas City after a brief stay in Chicago after serving for the Red Cross Ambulance Corp. In Kansas City Walt began working for the Kansas City Slide Company developing advertisements, gaining animation experience, then eventually left to start his own company Laugh O-Graham Films. Walt created his first series of short films called “Alice’s Wonderland” while owner operating his first business. Unfortunately at this time Walt lacked some business talents, therefore Laugh O Grahams life span was only approximately a year and a half. The Main Street station, is the curtains to a large production as if the Magic Kingdom was a theater. As I wander beneath the archway, I notice that above the arch is a plaque that reads: “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy”.
