According to the people the elk and deer were plentiful in the Black Hills, it was late and the hunters decided to make camp in a secluded narrow path, before they went to sleep they prepared their weapons. While they were all sleeping a giant snake encircled the camp, one of the hunter woke up at first he thought he was dreaming; so he closed his eye and opened them again realizing it was real he woke the other hunters. Neither of the hunters has ever seen such a huge snake. It all seemed like a bad dream to them; they were huddled together in confusion deciding on what they were going to do next. They finally came to a decision that they would jump over it. They gathered their stuff and threw it over first, then youngest to oldest they jumped next. Except the youngest one was afraid to jump first so he let the others go before him. At last the youngest hunter jumped he got halfway over when the snake lifted its head. The hunter landed on the ground, he was unconscious and the snake just looked at him. When the young hunter, woke the snake left, the young hunter had told them what the snake said; some hunters thought he was just messing around but others believe him. The snake told that they are to travel north to east, until they come to Flat River. Then they are to follow it into a low valley. Once they find a single lodge with a red door. If he could only find it before the thing outside got in. A perfect fusillade of knocks reverberated through the house, and he heard the scraping of a chair as his wife put it down in the passage against the door. He heard the creaking of the bolt as it came slowly back, and at the same moment he found the monkey's paw, and frantically breathed his third and last wish.
As Ralph, Piggy and Simon are working on a shelter they are listening to, " And then," said Jack, " when I've had a bathe and something to eat I'll just trek over to the other side of the mountain and see if I can see any traces. Coming?"(P.62).
The story began when a Indian man took out a tomahawk blade and twisted two slim branches from a small bitternut hickory tree on a salt marsh around the blade. Eleven years later, the same man chopped down the same tree and gave the finished tomahawk to his son, Little Hawk. He informed him that he was going to go through a ritual that required him to survive three months in the woods alone. When he returns, Little Hawk will finally prove himself as a man. The tomahawk is one of the things that he could bring with him during the ritual. Three other boys will also be doing the same as Little Hawk. After the three solitary months, Little Hawk found his way back home in triumph just to discover that his whole village is dead. His grandmother, Suncatcher, is the only one in the village. The two of them carried on with their lives in a new village. When spring came, two Englishmen and a seven-year-old boy arrived with an Indian translator named Squanto. The boy crept away from his father while they were being taught how to fish and played with other children. The boy told his name to Little Hawk. His name was John Wakeley. Soon, the white men came back and brought the boy away. About three years later, Little Hawk and Leaping Turtle were chosen to be runners. Runners brought messages to and from the Indian sachem’s home. Halfway through their journey, they heard screams. Little Hawk ran toward them and saw a white man lying crushed under a big tree and another man trapped by his leg u...

Rob and Andy were gone, and although Groom was present, the ordeal of the previous night had taken a terrible toll on him. Seriously frost-bitten he was unable even to speak. While I tried to recover after my fruitless search for Harris, Hutchinson organised a team of four Sherpas to locate the bodies of Weathers and Namba. The search party had set off before Hutchinson, who was so exhausted and befuddled he’d forgotten to put his boots on and had tried to leave camp in his smooth-soiled liners.
You spy with your possibly (or-possibly-not-so) little eye, a YOUNG MAN who happens to be asleep at the moment. The CLOCK that stands next to this man’s bed has just struck twelve, though whether it’s the night or the afternoon, the clock doesn’t bother with. It’s job is simply to tell the time and it feels that it’s doing that just fine enough for now. But the beams of sunlight shining through the window solve this problem for you. This young man should’ve been awake hours ago, it seems.

Brian reached his breaking point where he couldn't handle it anymore. “They would never return. He would never leave now, never get out of here. He went down to his knees and felt the tears start, cutting through the smoke and ash on his face,
Lightning strikes and thunder rumbles in the distance. The icy cold rain pounds against the roof. Lizzy sighs, looking out the window from the couch. “Ah, this is sooo boring . We’ve been stuck in this house for weeks because of all this stupid rain.” A streak of white light shines in the distance with the rumble of thunder soon after.
It happened so fast. She came around the corner, the speed picked up and then we lost control. The next thing I knew, a massive tree stood above us. The slow purr of the engine sputtered, as if taking it’s last breath, leaving the night in silence.
