9/11 has changed the world in many ways and some of these changes are irreversible or just hard to change. This marked date in time has affected us through the economy, attitudes toward Muslims and the security this country has. 9/11 has made the people of America hate Muslims and pay millions of dollars to attack and protect. American has upgraded their security so something like what happened on 9/11 would be prevented. 9/11 has impacted the world in many ways such as the security in airports has increased because before airports did not have to deal with taking off your shoes. After 9/11 the airports has increased due to the terrorist gone through the airport and now people began to get scared after 9/11 so they bumped up the security so …show more content…
After 9/11 2001 the FBI reported a 1700 percent increase of hate crimes against Muslim Americans between 2000 to 2001. After 9/11 Muslims Americans had faced a rise in negative stereotypes shown by the larger society, more than any other immigrant group. Middle Eastern Muslims or anyone with physical resemblance to the stereotypical Muslims were at risk of hatred and unkindness from people of other cultures. Research focusing on Islamophobia which is fear or hatred towards Muslims, a survey was taken on the United Kingdom showed that discrimination against Muslims has increased in recent years. discrimination towards Muslims was even before September 11 due to the media has been biased because the media has shown Muslims as intolerant and violent. The attacks of Muslims has worsen and the general attitude the public have has gone ordinary gone to the Muslims. Islamophobia can change a person because fear we have changes how we do things and living in fear and not in peace. The fear we have has us around it’s claw keeping us from doing other things because we fear that a Muslim might hurt us. The hatred and fear towards other people who might not hurt us at all might change the future in which this world lives in. People no matter what want to protect the country and at no price will upgrade the military to do
During an interview of three family members, I was able to learn more information about the events of 9/11. My mom, Jamie Goldman, was the first person I interviewed. She told me she was helping a friend with her new business in Aiken, SC. She first heard on the radio, breaking news, that a plane had flown into one of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center. Her first thought was that a plane had crashed accidentally. As the day went on, she learned of even more horrible acts against our country, and then realized our Nation was under attack from terrorist. My mom was heartbroken, scared, sad, and mad all at the same time. She struggles with forgiving the terrorist but knows that God would want her to forgive them. The song "God Bless the USA" is a song that helps my mom cope with the events of 9/11. My mom did not know anyone personally that was killed or injured on 9/11. She said, "after 9/11, our country has been a country at war. We have stopped loving our neighbors and instead, started judging them."
People didn’t wake up the next morning and looked forward to their day starting. They were afraid that an attack would happen. People knew that an attack could happen any moment of any day. People were devastated when their loved ones passed on such a tragedy that everyone will remember forever because every year on the day it happened they will get reminded. The attack on September 11, 2001 continues to be the biggest historical event. This is truly something no one would forget. These attacked caused the united states to turn differently. Airport now have very strict security. I can assure that if we had the security we have now, back then this probably wouldn’t have occurred. These events made history. Al Qaeda was a group who put themselves in dangerous activities if it meant they will be hurting others. Osama bin laden had a lot of power. It nearly took the united states about 15 years to find him and kill him. He was found by the american soldiers in his compound near islamabad, pakistan. He was responsible for many deadly acts of terrorism. The attack on new york city is the most known one because it changed the world. New york didn’t live the same after this tragedy. These both events impacted us pretty serious. It made the U.S army more prepared for another attack. If they were to attack us we would be ready. These events happened a while ago and we are thankful not another tragedy has happened
9/11 was one of the most devastating events in American History. Four hijacked passenger airplanes killed almost three thousand people. 9/11 changed millions of lives forever. American Citizens didn’t feel safe. This attack was a wake-up call to American security. 9/11 forced the country to acknowledge its shortcomings and fix them, before any more harm could come upon the United States of America. 9/11, as all acts of terror do, promoted the growth of technology, in this case, security in the United States. 9/11 also brought about feelings of hatred to the country. The United States soon became known as one of the most intolerable nations on this planet. Lastly, 9/11 butchered the economy and forced it down a long road to recovery.
The way Muslims have been treated after the 9/11 incident is very different than before. Before 9/11 there was certainly some discrimination towards Muslim Americans, but after the attacks happened, between the years 2000 and 2001, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported a 1,700 percent increase of hate crimes against Muslim Americans (Khan & Ecklund, 2012). “While trying to adapt to the outcome of 9/11, Muslim Americans dealt with an increase in negative stereotypes spoken by the common culture, and Muslim immigrants faced more negative attitudes than any other immigrant group” (Khan & Ecklund, 2012). Since the 9/11 attacks, people who dress with a substantial resemblance to Muslims worry about the upcoming hatred and unfriendliness from people of other ethnicities (Khan & Ecklund, 2012). While listening to the media, one can hear reports of negative stereotypes towards people who resemble the Muslim religion, which may be assumed that these people are violent. Negative attitudes that Muslim Americans experience may have detrimental effects on their success in America and their success of achieving the American Dream.
September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
On September 11, 2001, Osama Bin Ladin executed the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. The attack killed over 2,900 people, and since then America has changed in many ways. One example is the phobia people now have against people of Middle-Eastern decent or people that practice the Islamic religion. Since people think differently of these groups, they do not treat them with the respect they give to other people. They can be denied jobs, education, housing because of their religion and/or their Middle Eastern background. Another example on how America has changed since 9/11, is the airport security has grown largely. The new change can impact many travelers, as well it spends a lot of the American government’s money.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. It showed us that if we will be attacked again that we can only depend on each other and not on other nations to help us. The 9/11 changed people forever, some lost family members or friends, others lost their jobs even so called “American Dream.”
In America, there is a hatred lurking around in almost every corner of the nation; a discrimination and social bias that preys on the lives of innocent Muslims. Some people fear for their lives when they see a Muslim board a plane that they’re going to go on. Politicians are using that fear to fuel their popularity in elections. This prejudice even started to become a form of patriotism in the eyes of a concerning number of Americans. A lot of Muslims fear for their own lives in America because they are being looked down upon and even targeted by some people. This fear and hatred against these innocent Muslims are defined as Islamophobia. I believe that this amount of Islamophobia that is happening in America
9/11 was a series of four organized terrorist attacks made by an Islamic terrorist group called the Al-Qaeda. These attacks took place the United States, New York City and Washington D.C., on September 11 2001. This was one of the most tragic days of the world, especially for American Citizens. The events that took place on September 11th 2001 (9/11) impacted our country in numerous ways, some for the better but mostly for the worst and it continues to scare as well as affect Canadian citizens today.
The attack would change America in many ways. Airline security was heightened to new levels (Helle). There are long lists of things people are not allowed to take on a plane. Everything is checked at an airport. Foreign policy would change drastically. Many country stood beside America after the attacks and condemned them but Iraq never did give a real statement. Hate crimes against muslims in America where on the rise. Post cold war hope was gone we were now in a new war (Helle). The main goal of the Bush administration now was taking out the taliban (Newsinger). The attacks on Al-Qaeda started own October 7 2001 (History.com Staff). After only 2 mounths the USA had taken Al-Qaeda out of operational power (History.com
Post September 11, 2001 the life of a Muslim women living in America changed forever. Islamophobia is the prejudice against Islam or Muslims. Islamophobia is not a new concept, it has roots hundreds of years ago, however after 9/11 it became much more prevalent in America. Following 9/11 Western media used Islam and Muslim women who covered to inflict fear in American citizens. Western media framed Islam as a dangerous and hateful religion that needed to be stopped. At the same time the media became obsessed with Muslim women who veiled and wanted to save these women from their oppression. However, these articles written about the oppressed Muslim women did not feature Muslim women and their experiences veiling. They were not given a voice
Islamophobia is a newly coined term that is used to describe the growing fear of Muslims or specific groups that are considered to be associated with Islam. As a new term, the validity of Islamophobia is still a subject of huge debate even as its causes and characteristics are also controversial. This term was coined to refer to the events in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in light of people’s attitudes towards Muslims and those associated with Islam. Actually, after the dust settled following the attacks, a new gesture of nationalism was witnessed across the United States and racism soon followed, which are usually faces to the same coin (Rose, 2013). In light of these developments on the question on whether Islamophobia is a form of racism has generated arguments and counter-arguments in support and opposition to the claim. People who consider Islamophobia as a form of racism have supported their argument through various reasons including the division and exclusion associated with the fear of Muslims. On the contrary, opponents have argued that Islamophobia is not a form of racism because of lack of a clear link between the term and racism as well as the fact that Islam is not a race but religion. An analysis of these arguments and counter-arguments reveals that Islamophobia is a form of racism, particularly cultural racism.
Islamophobia has become a new topic of interest among social sciences, political leaders and media commentators. People amongst society have developed this phobia towards Islamic religion and people. It has become a novel “form of racism in Europe and American based on discrimination ...
We live in an age and time where media influence is at its highest. The media has an impact on us as an audience through every possible medium including both television and print media. As scientists find and cure diseases, as America finds a new country to invade, as the European markets fluctuate, there has been one constant subject prevalent in the Western media- Islam. 1.6 billion people in the world are of the Muslim religion (Desilver 2013), making it the world’s second largest religion, second to Christianity. Even prior to the events of 9/11, the religion of Islam has been under scrutiny by the media. Edward Said, infamous for his works on Orientalism has greatly contributed to our understanding of the Western misunderstanding of the Eastern based religion. Said has defined Orientalism as the Western’s style of domination, reconstruction, and authority over the Orient (Said 1978: 3). Orientalism has observable effects in the most forms of media. As a result, and irrational fear of Islam and those that practice the religion began-Islamophobia. As defined by the International Civil Liberties Alliance, Islamophobia is “a term which is widely used by NGOs and frequently appears in the media, tends to denote fear, hatred or prejudice against Islam and Muslim” (ICLA 2013). This project will attempt to understand what the audience perception is about Islamophobia in the media. It will aim to uncover the ways in which television channels amplify common misperceptions about Islam. As a Muslim myself, this is an area that has always been of interest to me, and like many audiences I have been able to witness the dimensions of Islamophobia s depicted by the western media. After the events of September 2001, the fears of Islam and ...
The contributing factors that led to the growth of Islamophobia in America post 9/11 are a mass hysteria caused by media, influential voices speaking against Islam and an increase of biased stereotypes. Some of the news’s greatest ways of contributing to the rise in Islamophobia is by giving unrealistic over-exaggerations and non-legitimate statistics in order to display an overall false narrative of the actual matter at hand. For instance, Tom Shillue (stand-up comedian) stating on Fox’s The Five that if there is a moderate Muslim voice “out there” now is the time to speak up and Sean Hannity calling for a “Jihad rising worldwide”.
