50 Killed in Florida Gay Nightclub. Death of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Charlottesville White Supremacist Rally Erupts in Violence. Muslims Mourn Teen Girl’s Brutal Beating Death. My generation finds it hard to escape the flashing headlines, on television, our phones, the internet. Faster than other generations whose news was limited to the daily paper, we have matured, become more aware of the world around us, losing our innocence in the process. We can’t escape the violence and hostility occurring all over the globe, we can no longer feign ignorance and trap ourselves in a bubble. We can not simply ignore the obvious demarcation in our communities.
In a society where we are more connected now than ever, the division is apparent,
The authors both making sweeping statements about the political nature of the United States, but Ames addresses a more concentrated demographic of American society than Hedges. The latter points the finger at the venal egotism of celebrity culture for entrancing the public into complacency, and at America’s political leaders for orchestrating the fact, but he also places substantial blame on the people at-large for allowing themselves to be captivated by the entertainment industry. Ames discusses an issue in which the Millennial generation stands as the focal point, but she speaks directly to the teachers of these adolescents due to their position of influence. Although today’s youth are proven to possess a spark of political energy through their own volition—displayed through their generation-wide interest in dystopian literature—an environment of learning and in-depth analysis provides the best opportunity for the novels’ underlying calls-to-action to strike a chord with their young
An alleged mistress of LBJ implied the conspiracy to kill JFK began in the early 1960’s, this conspiracy included dozens of individuals including leaders of the FBI and the Mafia. It has been stated that Oswald acted alone and there is no evidence to support he was involved in a conspiracy assassination. There was much research done by the Secretary of State, Defense, Treasury, the Attorney General, the FBI, CIA and the Chief Secret Service. All of them independently came up with the same conclusion that Oswald acted alone. With so many theories, we will never know the truth behind the JFK assassination.
We are promised a global village instead we inhibit the drab cul-de-sac and endless freeways of vast suburb of information.” Though we have a multitude of ways to communicate that are much faster and and newer, we are constantly participating in ways that alienate us from each other and the world around us. Marche describes this as an “epidemic of loneliness”. He discusses the effect this has on our modern society.
Assassination is a strong word with a powerful meaning. Assassination is defined as to kill suddenly or secretively, especially a politically prominent person; murder premeditatedly and treacherously. Assassinations and attempts have occurred throughout history. The victim is sometimes aware or unaware about their dangerous situation but is either guarded or unguarded. The assassin must have qualities of being determined, courage and intelligence to make the mission successful. Assassination is a long process of planning. It can take even years just to plan an assassination of a victim. Often times, assassination planning cannot be on paper because it can be evidence. The most common ways of assassination are using weapons, drugs, accidents and explosives. Surprisingly, the most common way of assassination is by gun. There can be many motives for assassination such as jealousy, political or religious ideas, revenge and etc. There are many famous assassinations. The assassination of Julius Caesar is very famous. Julius Caesar was Roman political figure, who was later was made the dictator of Rome, that was assassinated by the Senators.
The world is divided up into numerous things: Countries, states, cities, communities, etc. However, when looking at the big scope of things, one can group the vast amount of people into a society. This society is where the majority lie in the scheme of things - in other words, the common people. Individuals do exist in this society, but they are scarce in a world of conformism. Society’s standards demands an individual to conform, and if the individual refuses they are pushed down by society.
In June of 2016, the deadliest mass shooting in the United States happens at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. In the aftermath of Sunday morning when covering the shooting, News 13 a local news channel from Orlando used pathos in their news to create fear about terrorism to the audience. On the other hand, The New York Times used eyewitness videos and expert interviews to appeal logic.
With today’s technology and media presence, a child may watch more violence in thirty minutes than an adult experiences throughout their whole life.
“A new generation, well educated, connected, inspired by universal values and a global understanding, has created a new reality for us. We have found a new way to express our dreams: these young people who have now restored self-confidence… empowered us to go down to the streets.” (Khanfar 2011)
When I was young the only time I willingly woke up early was on Sunday mornings. I would throw on a robe over my pajamas and run down stairs with my brother to the living room and sit myself in the middle of the couch, which was directly in front of our television. To me the best part of the week was watching the morning cartoons with the family while eating breakfast. We always enjoyed good laughs watching the Coyote try to catch the Roadrunner, and I was jealous of the special powers and military devices in cartoons like ‘X-Men’ and ‘GI.Joe’. The habitual watching of cartoons eventually transformed as I reached my teen years. Instead of cartoons I watched music videos and movies. All of my life I have been growing up with the television, watching and learning from the characters and images on the screen. I realize now that the media greatly effects our lives and the lives of today’s youth, often in ways that we do not realize. In Natural Born Killers, a film written and directed by Oliver Stone he portrays what he believes are the negative effects from the media on America’s youth.
...wer. "Youth violence is at the same level it was 20 years ago," said Williams, who criticized the explicit news broadcasts of such sensational topics as the O.J. Simpson murder trial and the Rodney King beating. "That was under the guise of news, of justifiable violence. But why do we have to worry about what's on TV when we have a button that says off-on? We do not need V-chips. We need 'p-chips' implanted in the back of parents' heads and making them reassert their responsibility" (Bloom).
The times have changed, and with them, the customs. Generations of Americans, each with unique cultural influences and identities, have risen and aged over the course of America’s history. The latest generation, in particular, is the product of the past generation’s reforms in civil and individual rights. The Millennials are vastly different from past generations and they are also markedly unalike each other. The conduct of the 21st century contrasts sharply with the lifestyles of the 80s and the 90s, never mind the decades before those. This conduct is the product of innovations in technology that have also led to a heightened sense of both security and insecurity, and therefore have led to a new mentality that is set to the tune of control and regulation.

Have you ever wondered if America is going in the right political direction? The articles “American Psychosis,” by Chris Hedges, and “Engaging Apolitical Adolescents,” by Melissa Ames , have contrasting views and opinions about how pop culture is expressed through young adults political views and interest. In Hedges article, he explains why he thinks that reality TV shows among others are destroying this country. Hedges uses very harsh and critical phrasing in his article to evoke a deep emotional response to the reader. Ames, on the other hand, reference s the rise of dystopian novels after nine eleven the “total vote has increased consistently throughout the past four presidential elections” (Ames 4). She shows how young readers are becoming
Every person everywhere in the United States is consumed by what the media tells them: what to do, what to wear, where to go to shop. People will swear up and down that they want to have their own identity, and they will even go to great lengths to attain it, yet, inevitably, they all fall into a “clique” with millions of others. Nobody wants to be a follower, but in terms of youth culture, nobody can really be a true leader.
...om humble and non-violent to harsh and violent. It can also may lead to a person awareness of one’s environment and taking responsibility for one's actions which is what the world requires(Rosengren, 2000). Society is able to transition from the past to the future through real-time information on the present (Hiebert & Gibbons, 2000). Society therefore becomes a living organization, complete with a feedback loop provided by the media, well equipped to sense oncoming danger and learn from its mistakes in readiness for tomorrow (Preiss, 2007). However, caution needs to be put in place to prevent the youth and children from participating in actions they do not have a clue on but do them on the justifications of the actions watched over the media (Wells & Hakanen, 1997). Mass media will remain beautiful but when precautionary measures are not in place, it becomes ugly.
