TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Junior running back Derrick Henry is one of three finalists for the 2015 Heisman Memorial Trophy, which was announced Monday evening on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
Henry will be joined by quarterback Deshaun Watson (Clemson) and running back Christian McCaffrey (Stanford) in New York City on Saturday as finalists. The 81st Heisman Trophy will be presented at the Best Buy Theatre in New York City on Saturday, December 12. The event will be broadcast live by ESPN from 7-8 p.m. (CT).
"It is a very special honor for me to be selected as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy," Henry said following the announcement Monday evening. "First I want to thank God for blessing me with his opportunity. The Heisman Trophy has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and the chance to go to New York as a finalist is amazing. But none of this would be possible without my coaches and teammates. The offensive line, the quarterback, wide receivers and tight ends have done an unbelievable job all season and our coaches always put us in a position to be successful."

Henry, from Yulee, Fla., is the fifth Alabama player to be invited to New York for the Heisman presentation since 2009, the most of any school during that span.
Before that, David Palmer (1993) and Jay Barker (1994) went in back-to-back seasons. Mark Ingram became the Crimson Tide’s first Heisman winner in 2009, Trent Richardson was a finalist in 2011, AJ McCarron finished runner-up in 2013 and Amari Cooper was a finalist in
2014. Henry, who is also a finalist for the Doak Walker, Maxwell and Walter Camp Player of the Year, has rushed for a school- and SEC-record 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns on 339 carries. He leads the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns and is second in yards per game with 152.8. Henry has recorded four 200-plus yard performances this year, making him just the third back in SEC history to record four in one season, joining Herschel Walker (Georgia) and Bo Jackson (Auburn). He also has scored a rushing touchdown in 18 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the country and the most by an SEC player in the last 25 seasons. Ingram is the first and only winner, but the Crimson Tide has had 20 players finish in the top 10 since the award’s inception in 1935. McCarron was runner-up in 2013 and Cooper was third last season, while Richardson (2011) and Palmer (1993) also finished third. Lee Roy Jordan (1962) and Johnny Musso (1971) finished fourth; while Joe Kilgrow (1937), Harry Gilmer (1945 and 1947), Pat Trammell (1961), Terry Davis (1971) and Barker (1994) all finished fifth. On March 24, 1976, Peyton was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Archie and Olivia Manning. He was the second of three boys. Cooper and Eli are his siblings. Peyton developed his skills from watching his dad play for the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. In 1991, Peyton became the starting quarterback for Isidore Newman High in New Orleans where he felt comfortable playing with Cooper, the top receiver. After being recruited by several different colleges, Peyton chose the Tennessee Volunteers. Under Peyton’s leadership, the volunteers steadily climbed to a high national ranking. Also while playing for Tennessee Peyton set forty-two conference, school, and NCAA records. Although he was finished in three years and was expected to turn pro, he chose to stay with Tennessee one more year. In his last year with the Volunteers he led them to the National Championship in the Orange Bowl. The following year Peyton, the number one overall NFL draft pick, became the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.

Throughout his freshman season in college, Tebow had a bit of a rough year. He was the backup and only attempted 33 passes for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns. Although he had a rough year, the Florida Gators ended up winning the National Championship that year. His coach, Urban Meyer, decided to start him the following season as a sophomore. Tebow had an outstanding season as he passed for over 3,200 yards and had 32 passing touchdowns. That same season, Tebow won the Heisman Trophy which is awarded to the best overall player that season. The Florida Gators didn’t make it to the National Championship game that year because they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the South-Eastern Conference (SEC) Championship game. However, Tebow and the Florida

It was my first football game. I never considered myself a big football person--I used to think football wasn’t for me. I’d always been a timid, gentle person, who didn’t seem to possess the qualities a football player should have; I wasn’t very competitive, or aggressive, or intimidating. Yet, although I knew I didn’t represent the average football player, I felt in this moment as if I were one. All of my attention was on one thing--walking out of this stadium celebrating a win with my teammates.
