1. What is a Climate Refugee?
Climate refugees are people who have to migrate to a different area (temporary or permanently) due to disasters caused by climate change.
2. How does Kates 2000 relate to the film Climate Refugees?
People will find a different area where they can move to after a disaster hits. This can lead to lack of space and resources. People are fighting against one another for the chance of survival.
3. What are different ways that climate change increases hazard risk? Compare the kinds of risk from two locations discussed in the film.
Climate change can lead to many other issues such as sea water rise in some areas and drought in many different areas. Accorded to the film, Bangladesh is the zero ground level to climate

According to the 1951 Refugee Convention, refugee is a term applied to anyone who is outside his/her own country and cannot return due to the fear of being persecuted on the basis of race, religion, nationality, membership of a group or political opinion. Many “refugees” that the media and the general public refer to today are known as internally displaced persons, which are people forced to flee their homes to avoid things such as armed conflict, generalized violations of human rights or natural and non-natural disasters. These two groups are distinctly different but fall ...
Refugees are a specific type of immigration group. As define in section, “a refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. Climate Change is the significant change in the climate and distribution of weather patterns on Earth ranging from the last decade to millennia earlier.
These are conflict, poverty, instability, migration, unrest, collapse, capacity, and dependency. This film serves as a wakeup call to the audience because climate change is a very critical problem that people should address as soon as possible. It also explicitly shows that climate change is in fact in our midst and is not just a myth or a theory as some would say.

A refugee is defined as an individual who has been forced to leave their country due to political or religious reasons, or due to a threat of war or violence. There were 19.5 million refugees worldwide at the end of 2014, 14.4 million under the mandate of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), around 2.9 million more than in 2013. The other 5.1 million Palestinian refugees are registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). With the displacement of so many people, it is difficult to find countries willing to accept all the refugees. There are over 125 different countries that currently host refugees, and with this commitment comes the responsibility of ensuring these refugees have access to the basic requirements of life: a place to live, food to eat, and a form of employment or access to education.
In the tale The Happy Man’s Shirt, a central theme is that riches do not guarantee happiness. The prince in the story, a boy who lacks nothing is shown to be depressed for no discernible reason. This is demonstrated when the king confronts his son, the prince. “‘What on earth do you lack?’ asked the king. ‘What’s wrong with you?’ ‘I don’t even know myself Father.’” (Author Page). Even though there is nothing that the prince could desire for he is still deeply unhappy. This emphasizes that wealth is not everything and sometimes it is better to live simply. The next instance occurs when the king, desperate for a solution seeks out happy people. He comes upon a neighboring king with a very prosperous kingdom. He seems to be the solution
Climate change has become of the world’s major issue today. The earth’s climate is always changing in a very fast and also in different ways. Climate changes affect our lives psychologically, emotional and also physically. Climate change is defined as a long term change in the earth’s climate, especially a change due to the increase in the average atmospheric temperatures. Due to this change in temperature, a lot of changes has occurred in our environment, these changes include rising sea levels, flooding, melting of polar ice caps, hotter days, colder nights and heat waves. These climate changes plays an important role in shaping our natural ecosystem, our human economics and also the most important, it affects the human race. For
Natural Disasters can occur anywhere at anytime. Some are more predictable than others, but they all bring hardship to everyone’s life. Examples of natural disasters are Earthquakes (Haiti 2010), Tornadoes, Tsunami, Hurricanes, Wild Fires, Winter Storms, Heat waves, Mudslides and Floods. Regardless of what kind of disaster occurs, bottom line, everyone needs to be prepared mentally and physically to deal with the aftermath. Education is the first step to prepare you to deal with any major disaster. Three of the major disasters that can potentially disrupt normal day to day operations in our lives, are Hurricanes, Tsunamis and Tornadoes.
Therefore any change in the earth’s temperature that causes the level of the oceans to rise would seriously affect the flooding of the delta area of Bangladesh. A fifth to a third of the country is annually flooded by the river Ganges and there are many factors both human and physical which encourage the river Ganges and Brahmaputra to overflow its river banks. The obvious physical cause of flooding in Bangladesh is that about 90% of the land is below sea level, therefore any changes in the sea level would cause serious problems for Bangladesh. Another physical cause includes the snow melting in the Himalayas, caused by global warming. The Himalayas are one of the few places in the world that retain permanent glaciers.
Climate change is an inevitable phenomenon that is being experienced globally in various forms such as temperature rise. Sea level rise, droughts, floods, hurricanes, landslides, etc. According to the forth assessment report of the IPCC project even with immediate implementation of mitigation strategies global climate change will continue for decades. Climate change is inflicting serious consequences on human wellbeing and will continue to inflict damages in the future. It is estimated that mean global temperature will rise by 1.8 ºC - 4.0 ºC by end of the 21st century (Izaurraade, 2009). A new global climate model predicts that in the coming decade the surface air temperature is likely to exceed existing records (Smith et al., 2007). Growing season temperatures in the tropics and subtropics by end of the 21st century will exceed the most extreme temperature recorded in the history (Battistic and Rosamond, 2009).
There are different types and causes of disasters: man-made, natural and a combination. Man-made disasters are caused by human error or human actions that cause harm to the environment, and people (Baack & Alfred, 2013). Natural disasters are caused by nature, a hurricane for example, and a combination of NA-TECH (natural-technological). Examples are earthquakes that cause structural damage such as a collapse of a bridge (Nies & McEwen, 2011). Communities must have effective emergency preparedness in place to reduce the casualties of a disaster.
Climate change is always a controversial topic and some scholars discuss this topic since always. What is the climate change? It means a change of climate may attribute to the human activities or natural factors and it will cause some extreme weather events. In this century, with those human or natural factors, abnormal weather always appears and its impacts are threatening our life. However, most people are not aware of this problem, some potential impacts of climate change, how to affect our life and environment are explained below.
