I like to think that science fiction is a piece of literature brought from a future time. Fourty years ago when people were watching the Jetsons no one thought it would be possible to video chat live with a person like we do nowadays on Skype or face time. We live in a time where drone aircraft has become a daily feature of the war, just like it was shown in Star Wars and Star Trek. 1984 is a novel by George Orwell published in 1949 that talks about a totalist country named Oceania in which people are highly controlled by the government with techniques that in Orwell times were improbable to happen in the history of mankind. Just imagine for a few seconds a world in which you cannot have an opinion or you will be abruptly tortured. A place with no love, respect or family. A big society made up by an elite that controls the rest of the people like animals or worse. This book makes you feel sick thinking about what it will be like living in this God forsaken country, but what if you were told that this book is closer to present reality than you could ever imagine. Maybe we are not that different from Owen and Julia. Ignorance created by a worldwide government and an elite has made us think that we live in an far far away land in which everything is perfect and under control, but if you start realizing and opening your eyes to the real world you will notice that in this planet everything is controlled and there are people starving and living in worst conditions that the ones shown in this ¨fiction book¨. One of the most terrifying objects in this book is the telescreen, a spying machine from the inner party that can hear you, watch you and even talk to you and give you orders! This telescreen brought from the same hell is everyw... ... middle of paper ... ...s used to see pornography 24/7, and play games. A prove of the systems failure is when you notice that students care more about their grade than what they have learned, when that is supposedly the main purpose of education. People do not talk anymore, now they text, no grammar, no punctuation, LOL this, LOL that. It is more important what’s on their cellphone than what it is on their head and obviously elites do not have any problem with this. Through time everything has changed to come to the conclusion that it actually didn’t change at all, the proles will remain proles, even though people speak different languages and have different cultures, at dawn everyone sees the same sun. One day as Owen said the proles will seize the day when they understand that we’re not that much different from each other, and create a world in which two plus two is four and not five.
