A prime example of this is my persuasive essay I wrote in 11th grade on switchingthe bus schedules. Even though I received an A on said project, I had waited until the nightbefore to complete the assignment and this added a lot of extra stress to my life. I would like tofix the weakness, especially before I go to college, so that I can keep up with the increasedcourse vigor and not be overwhelmed with stress. Over the last four years, I have made great additions to my personal growth. I havebecome a much more mature person as well as more open minded. Teachers and coaches haveall said that I have matured greatly from my freshman year; that I have become calmer and morethoughtful about what I do and how I do it. For example, in Track and Field I have decided toparticipate in a broad range of events instead of narrowly focusing on pole-vaulting solely. Irealize that it will increase my chances of getting a scholarship for track and field. One of the biggest events in my life happened during my high school years. I had the privilege to participate in a missions’ trip to South Dakota to volunteer on a Sioux Indian reservation.

The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
It was the tremendous amounts of arguments amongst my parents over our tight financial debt, which taught me how to manage, respect, and organize money responsibly during my junior year. Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.

English 102 (Writing and Research about Culture) had a main purpose of teaching students how to write research papers. This course also taught how different perspectives and prejudices are based on the language that it uses. Examples of these prejudices included: sexism, ageism, ableism, heterosexism/homophobia, and racism. Since English 102 is a class that focuses on writing, one of the major lessons included learning how to write a proper essay. For example, I learned that the basic outline of an essay included: the intro, body, and conclusion. The parts of the essay then further breaks down into the basic parts of a paragraph. The basic parts of a paragraph include: a transition sentence, a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. In this class, I also

As I started to look around me and who I was surrounded by, I realized that in my neighborhood I was surrounded by lower middle class and poor people. All of which who did not have motivation or ambition to carry on throughout life themselves, so they settled for what was in front of them instead of reaching for what was above them but was possible to reach with motivation and determination. When I also saw how my family struggled to pay bills, buy toiletries, or even sometimes struggle with buying food that made me check my own reality and come to my senses to know there has to be more to life then struggling. Another factor that motivates me is I never want to relive my past or let my own history repeat itself. I live by this quote to simply remind myself that I can do better than what I came from. I want to achieve success so that my children can have someone who leaves the impression of triumph in their mind. I want my children to realize that there is more to life than the eye meets and I never want them to have to beg or ask for anything the way I did as a child. Furthermore, I also learned about myself in the process of finding my motivation, and I learned that when I am rejected, I am driven to achieve more. The encounter that made me very obsessive over achieving success was when one day I stayed at church later than expected and I was in need of a ride home because my parents were at work. I asked someone to take me home, they agreed at first but then when it was time to go, they asked me if I had a bus card and told me I should get on the bus because they didn’t feel like taking me. At that moment, I picked up my dignity and pride, walked away from the car, went to the bathroom and cried. I cried because that day I realized if you have just enough to barely survive, people won’t really help you as long as they know you’re still living.
In my eleventh grade Reflective Essay, I utilized metaphor, simile, an idiom, juxtaposition, and appeals to pathos. Speaking of a scholar’s life involves of lots of descriptive details; thus, I applied a simile to compare my grades to a barrier. The effect that the simile had was to bring forth an image of some sort of wall and comparing that to my grades to show how they have not been so pleasing. In that same sentence, I appealed to pathos because I have an emotional response to my grades, and I truly comprehended that grades are just letters, they do not define my knowledge. Inasmuch as I incorporate my grades as a key priority and praise my AP U.S. History class, I employed the idiom on “cloud nine” to amplify my perspective and put forth
