Middle of August 1990 is when B/2-7 AIR DEFENSE ARTILLERY (ADA), commanded by CPT Joe D'Antona became operational at Dhahran airbase. That is seven months before “D day” of the Gulf War, also known as Desert Storm took place. Working with only a few missiles in its database, they had added 500 more Tactical ballistic missiles (TBM) to the Patriot database before the ground campaign began in February. 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade was the higher level air defense unit during Desert Storm, they deployed 12 patriot batteries from 1-7 ADA, 2-7 ADA, 2-43 ADA, 3-43 ADA, and 8-43 ADA 4-5 ADA deployed the first Army's Avenger Battery in DESERT STORM it was one of the Army's first units to lose a soldier due to hostile fire. As the incoming brigade commander, LTC (P) Owens, I see the critical leadership problem facing the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) is the inability or unwillingness of Colonel Cutler to lead and manage change effectively. In initial talks with Col Cutler and in reviewing the brigade’s historical unit status reports, the 4th ABCT performed as well as can be expected in Afghanistan, but as the onion was peeled back there are numerous organizational issues that were brought to the surface while I walked around and listened to the soldiers of the 4th ABCT, in addition to reviewing the Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) report. One of the most formidable tasks of a leader is to improve the organization while simultaneously accomplishing

In Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Iraqi forces fired 93 Scud missiles at coalition forces in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. (Rostker) Air Defense Artillery (ADA) played an immensely significant role in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm with units from 11th Brigade Air Defense Artillery and the 32d Air Defense Command rapidly deploying into theater. The effectiveness of the units and their roles in fighting this war proved that Air Defense Artillery was critical to the success of the campaign. Although Patriot Batteries placed strategically throughout Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Israel played a tremendous tactical role in these wars, High-Medium Air Defense (HIMAD) was not the only type of surface to air missile system in place
In late October of 1965, troops of the 1st Brigade were sent into the battle. After the enemy was repulsed, the 3rd Brigade replaced the 1st Brigade in early November (X-Ray). After three days of patrolling without any contact, Hal Moore's 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry was ordered to air assault into the Ia Drang Valley on Nov 14. Moore's plan was to move Bravo and Alpha northwest past the creek bed, and Charlie south toward the mountain. Delta Company, which comprised special weapons forces including mortar, recon, and machine gun units, was to be used as the battlefield reserve. In the center of the LZ was a large termite hill that which was to become Moore's command post.

Air Defense Artillery (ADA) has been used in multiple battles, from World War I to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Although, different names have been used to label Air Defense Artillery, they have always served the same purpose, to destroy enemy air threats. During World War II, Air Defense Artillery was known as Anti-Aircraft Artillery. This title continued, even through the battle of the Kasserine Pass. The day of 19 February 1943 began a wretched and depressing battle for America and its allies. Located in Tunisia, the Kasserine Pass is about a two mile wide gap in the Atlas Mountains, where some of the U.S II Corps and British military held off and defeated the Axis offensive. Experience was lacking for the Anti-Aircraft Artillery

The Battle of 73 Eastings refers to a modern day tank on tank battle in the finals hours of 2nd ACR’s covering force operation. 2nd ACR’s main mission during Operation Desert Sabre was to cross the Saudi Arabia-Iraq border and advance east as a forward scouting element, defeating enemy units within its capability (Gulf War 20th: The Battle of 73 Easting and the Road to the Synthetic Battlefield, 2011). The Battle of 73 Eastings took place on 26 February 1991 in a featureless desert in Southern Iraq, near the Kuwaiti border. In 1991, Operation Desert Storm had kicked off and Patriot added missile-interception. Patriot anti-tactical ballistic missile capability phase 2 (PAC-2) had the first wartime engagement of a tactical rocket by an anti-tactical ballistic missile in history. Patriot upgraded to the PAC-3 missile that utilizes hit-to-kill technology making it over ninety percent success rate on engagements. Patriot is constantly undergoing improvements and remains one of the most sophisticated air defense technologies in the world today. (Kraus, 2000; Patriot,
