Diverse populations are people in the non-dominant social systems who have been traditionally under researched and underserved. The understanding that all people of origin are different made up of people or things that are different from each other. With diverse population the effect of persons attitude, values, beliefs, social, cultural, racial and ethnic background tie into family origin which we learn areas that pose as a problem to the individual and what is lesser important to the individual. Taking each area and exploring, focusing on how I incorporate and understanding how they measure in my own life. The major views in society to name a few are race, religion, and gender. These issues are necessary to control the inappropriate views and allowing each person to better themselves regardless of their age, race, religion, and sexually origin. The area that concerns me the most is being in a minority group, a woman and age from the time of my career in my early twenty’s the knowledge I have obtained in my life has been influenced by the knowledge from older aging individuals and my gender. To define aging is simply a reflection of changes that occur over the course of our life. We grow. We develop. We reach maturity. The excitement for aging starts young with more independence. By middle age, the visible notice to changes become noticed like wrinkles and gray hair slowing down or decline in physical capabilities. Then reaching the age of older adults has an increase to disease and disabilities. As a member of society, I live in a diverse population that is constantly changing. As a middle- aged woman I am impacted by society through the social and cultural norms that have placed rules on our society. Through the norms of society my attitude, my beliefs, and my values are shaped to influence my life, family, and work relationships and experiences. Ethically and racially I am white, culturally I am southern, and socially I am a women and these are important factors that have hindered and benefited my life, how I learn, and what I do. The diverse population is the melting pot of everything that makes up a person’s mental and physical being and combines it with everyone in a society.

Society is diverse, whether it is because of race, gender, socioeconomic, or culture, I have learnt that it is important to respect a person for who they are. Because America is a country that is culturally diverse, I will need to do some research on a patient that has a different culture from me. Diversity shapes the world we live in. Diversity can be defined as people coming together from different nationalities, races, religions, cultures, sexes, and genders to form a group, organization or community. With diversity comes both positive and negative factors, especially to those who fail to understand its value. Today, most people view diversity as an overall good thing because it allows people the chance to experience something different, gain a new perspective on life, and it influences understanding, clarity, and knowledge outside of what we are normally accustomed to. Humans are a stereotypical lifeform. Disregarding all backgrounds and cultures, humans are constantly categorizing others subconsciously and blatantly. Due to past experiences and social observations, I have come to the realization that there is a way in which humans are taught how different societies define differences among different people and this is way that varies from culture to culture.
Every individual in society and in a community is unique in their own ways, and their diversity shows up in many ways. Some of these ways include: religion, race, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, and so on. Everyone’s backgrounds are different, and this is what creates diversity in people. Even though everyone might not be the same, only by uniting everyone can we create the big picture. It’s like a puzzle—even though people are different, we can come together to create a big picture that couldn’t be created by puzzle pieces of the same shape. To me, diversity symbolizes the unique backgrounds that we come from. If someone comes from a different socioeconomic background, or lifestyle, their thought processes and their view of life might be much more different than mine. Diversity refers to the ways people differ from each other. These ways are significant and plentiful. Culturally, people vary in gender, age, ethnicity, race sexual orientation, educational background, religion, lifestyle, as well as veteran and/or immigrant status. Functionally, people vary in the ways we think, learn, process information, respond to authority, show respect and reach agreements (Pollar & Gonzalez, 2011.)
Late adulthood should be a time in a person's life where they feel fulfilled. They can look back on their memories and be happy with the way they have lived their life. Now, too many elderly people are not satisfied and look at this stage as depressing. Most fear death of either a loved one or for themselves. This topic is interesting to me because elderly people should make the best of their last stage of life. This topic discusses about getting older, the life changes that they go through physically, emotionally, and mentally. We should know more about it so that we can help our family and friends get through one of the best, yet toughest part of our mortal life.
Diversity is a concept that I believe most people do not have the correct knowledge of nor do they understand what it truly means. Being able to help educate others about diversity would mean the world to me, therefore it’s important for me to understand diversity. In order to understand diversity it’s especially crucial to have an open mind so that one can truly understand. I have traveled to Ecuador, worked with Me to We, taken diversity focused classes, participated in the 2015 Global Youth Summit, as well as created an awareness presentation with fellow students to further my understanding and knowledge of diversity.
Ageing is a continuing life cycle, it is an ongoing developmental event that brings certain changes in one’s own psychological and physical state. It is a time in one's own life where an elderly individual reminisce and reflect, to bask and live on previous accomplishments and begin to finish his life cycle. There is a significant amount of adjusting that requires an elderly individual to be flexible and develop new coping skills to adapt in the changes that are common in their new life. Aging and being old was dominated by negative characteristics and conditions such as illness, depression, and isolation for a long time (Eibach, Mock, & Courtney, 2010). At first glance the terms “success” and “aging” seem to be in conflict to each other. When asking people about aging, their answers have many facets that are also found in psychological definitions: successful aging is seen as health, maturity and personal growth, self-acceptance, happiness, generativity, coping, and acceptance of age-related limitations. In the psychological sense successful aging is also often seen as the absence of age-associated characteristics (Strawbridge, Wallhagen, & Cohen, 2002). It seems that successful aging means is not aging.

Diversity within a group is about the quality of being different. The differences between values, traits, attitudes, status is what diversity entails. Engleberg and Wynn state that these “characteristics include age, occupation, physical ability, marital status, personality preferences, and much more.” We must remember to avoid stereotyping individuals and learn to accept that diversity in groups is the skillset that individuals bring to the group. Age is but a number. A number that classifies, organizes, and can even define someone. It holds opportunities to learn new things and determines when the path into adulthood begins. The linear notion created by steadily increasing numbers is a very narrow outlook on age. It assumes that as someone grows in age, they are changing both mentally and physically. This, however, is far from the truth. Age is beyond the numbers; it is what lies within. When numbers are disregarded and the qualities attributed to each phase of life is examined, a sequence of repetition can be observed. Instead of growing old, it can be seen as regressing to adolescence. The two outliers of life, infancy and elderly, are far more similar than any numerical value could ever project.
