Anemia is a condition in which your blood does not have enough healthy red blood cells. These cells play an important role because are the main carriers of oxygen to your organs. They take up oxygen from the lungs and release carbon dioxide back to the lungs. Without the red blood cells, you body wouldn’t get any oxygen or carbon dioxide and your body would slowly die. Anemia can be mild or severe. It can be so mild, that people go a long time without even know they have it. They’ll start to realize it the worse it gets.

There are over 400 types of anemia, here are some. Sickle cell anemia is when your red blood cells break down fast, so your organs don’t receive oxygen; it mainly affects African-Americans. Pernicious anemia is when your intestines do not intake enough vitamin B12, which is needed in order to make red blood cells. Aplastic anemia is a rare type of anemia, where your body doesn’t make enough red and white blood cells because of different types of medications. For example, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, etc. There are various types of anemia, all of them fall back on red blood cells. As you can see, your body does not produce enough red blood cells for various reasons.

Anemia is most common in women, about 3.5 million Americans are diagnosed with it. The most common form of anemia is called iron deficiency anemia. Bone marrow needs iron to make hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the part of red blood cells that give off oxygen to the body’s organs, it also gives the red blood cells its red color. When bone marrow lacks hemoglobin because of iron, it is called iron deficiency anemia.

Once again, everyone will have different treatment because our bodies work in different ways.

I have had iron deficiency anemia for a long time and it was only extremely bad at one point, so it is possible to live with it and forget you have it. It doesn’t have to be severe. Some people have anemia for a lifetime, while others only have it for a short period of time. Yes, it is possible for anemia to go away. When your bone marrow can produce enough red blood cells again, anemia can go away. All you have to do, is treat it the correct way and you have nothing to worry about.
