The Death of William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare is one of, if not the worlds most revered English writers. His works have inspired many to write and follow in his footsteps, and break new ground in terms of ingenuity and innovation. As described in The Anxiety of Influence, by Harold Bloom, that Shakespeare's works will never be subjugated. His works could never be looked at as second best and should be praised for his enterprise.(Bloom)
If we are to talk about the death of superlative writer of all time, we might as well start at the beginning of the end. The date is November 28th,1582, The Bishop of Worcester issues a marriage license to the young Bard of 18 years old, and to his newly wed wife, Anne Hathaway of 26 years old. There is some controversy as to whether was in love with two women, both with the name Anne. There are records of a Anne Whateley which may be a mistake for Hathway as the clerk was described as a “nincompoop”. There is also another theory of there being another Wm Shaxpere and the Annam Whateley to be married in Temple Grafton, and the Wm Shagspere and Anne Hathwey who were to married in Stratford. Although this debate relies on the assumption that William had a relative of his staying in Temple Grafton, or that another man with a similar name was staying there, both being far fetched. Now to me the more believable of the theories, was that William Shakespeare was a fancy man, and there was two different Annes’, Whateley and Hathaway. This portrays Shakespeare as being torn in two, on one hand he has Whateley, which evidence suggest that he planned to marry her first, then on the other he had the moral obligation to wed Hathaway who was with child, which was in all likelihood his. On his 52nd Birthday William Shakespeare succombes to a unknown illness on April 23, 1616. He was buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, the very same church he was baptized.
Shakespeare's death at the age of 52 still remains a mystery, but given the time he lives in with numerous disease giving the average life expectancy of 35 years, Shakespeare fared quite well. He left behind one of the greatest legacies, and his excogitation was unparalleled. His works will live on for Eons and will never be forgotten.
William Shakespeare, an English actor and play write, was born in Stratford upon Avon on April 23, 1564. When he was 18 he married Anne Hathaway, a Stratford woman, who was 26 years old. Shakespeare and Hathaway had three children. The first was Susanna and the twins were Hamnet and Judith. Another of Shakespeare's great works of art, Hamnet, was named after Hamnet. Juliet, in Shakespeare's famous play Romeo and Juliet, was named after Judith. Shakespeare died on April 23, 1601. There are many events that contributed to Romeo and Juliet's deaths. These events are either fate or coincidence.
Death plays a key role in Romeo and Juliet. During the story, six deaths occur that fashion Shakespeare’s publication into the calamity that’s known around the world. Each death pushes the story forward continuously, leading to the finale where the two lovers die due to love and hate from both feuding families.
In his life he experienced many ups and downs as we all do. Shakespeare married a women, Anne Hathaway, who was eight years older than he at the ripe age of eighteen. He had a hurried marriage. Just a few months after they had been wed, Susanna was born which meant that the swift marriage was caused by an unplanned pregnancy due to premarital intercourse. Just a short twenty-one months later, they gave birth to a set of twins; Hamnet and Anne. Around 1590, he moved to England to make success of his work and he would later become a co-owner to the Globe Theater. In, 1596 his only son passed at age eleven. Shakespeare’s modern influence is still seen clearly in many ways. The success of Shakespeare’s works helped to set the example for the development of modern dramas and plays. He is also acknowledged for being one of the first writers to use any modern prose in his writings.
Though William Shakespeare is recognized as one of literature's greatest influences, very little is actually known about him. What we do know about his life comes from registrar records, court records, wills, marriage certificates and his tombstone. Anecdotes and criticisms by his rivals also speak of the famous playwright and suggest that he was indeed a playwright, poet and an actor.
William Shakespeare spent the later years of his life in London, England. This part of his life deserves to be noted, because of his outstanding accomplishments towards society. A big part of Shakespeare’s accomplishments derive in the city of London. William Shakespeare’s life in London consisted of the lost years, involvements with the Globe Theater, creations of brilliant Early works, articulate writing styles that catch the eye, and controversies about whether Shakespeare was educated enough to construct plays the way that he did in this short time period.
“William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was and English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s preeminent dramatist” (vodppl.upm.edu 2). He was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK, he also passed away in his hometown. “When Shakespeare died in 1616 the event was barely noticed” (Epstein 7). “Shakespeare’s family was initially prosperous but began having financial difficulties in the 1570’s” (Allen 325). “Shakespeare gained his education by attending the local grammar school, King’s New School, where the curriculum stressed a classic education of Greek mythology and roman comedy”(shakespeareinamericancomunites.org 1). He never carried his educational career to a higher level as in a university. “William Shakespeare was not recognized as an actor, poet, and playwright until 1592” (Allen 346).
The impeccable style and craft of Shakespeare’s writing has always been looked upon with great respect, and it continues to serve as an inspiration to writers and thinkers today even as it did when it was being first performed in London. Shakespeare’s modern audience, however, is far less diverse than the one for which he originally wrote. Due to the antiquity of his language, Shakespeare’s modern readership consists mostly of students and intellectuals, whereas in Shakespeare’s own time, his plays were performed in playhouses packed with everyone from royalty to peasants. Because of this, Shakespeare was forced to write on many different levels, the most sophisticated of which appealed to his more elite audience members, while the more straightforward and often more crude of which appealed to his less educated viewers, and the most universal of which still appeals to us.
Across the Universe of Time: Shakespeare’s influence on 21st century society. It is harder to imagine a more universal writer than William Shakespeare. Rarely, if ever, is one of his many plays not being performed anywhere in the world and similarly rare is the tertiary English student who has not examined his work at length. His plays, sonnets and poems are common fodder for high school English departments across the globe.

In the play Twelfth Night Shakespeare states “Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them” (Twelfth Night II.5.154). Literature is an art form, it is entertainment, history, and a medium of self-expression. There is something magical about the creative power that is within literature.
