Children! When someone becomes a parent their kids are the most important thing on the planet. They will do anything to protect them from danger. Parents will love their kids more than life itself. So why a parent wouldn’t be upset when something happens to their children and they do not find out about it. I know I sure would be. There are many cases where school had the students in dangerous situations and didn’t contact their parents. Of course the parents where very upset they found out by someone other than the schools. Whether it is gang activity, bus accidents or unsuitable learning environments schools and parents need to have strong communication to have a strong relationship and make the most for the kids to have a safe place to stride.
In the big school areas the schools have gang members for students which makes the gang activity go up. Schools try to stop the activity but most of the time they just turn the other cheek about it. When the schools do that it is less effective and it is not solving the problem. The kids will come to school and do illegal things there because they think they will just get a detention or a trip to the office and back to class they go, but that’s wrong the school grounds are not a place for kids to come and become above the law. They will still get in trouble with the law just like if they were not in school. It is important for schools to report all crimes it is the first step to acknowledging the problem and trying to solve it. The schools must report all crimes because it is the right thing to do and the law (Trump).

Communicating effectively with parents and students is important in order to be successful at teaching. Studies have shown that parental involvement in a student’s education allows for greater success in the classroom (Duarte, G, Cerda-Perez, E & Rosenberg, G 2007). Technology is beneficial in communicating with students and parents. The use of technology allows for students and parents to have access to current lesson plans as well as access to the teacher after normal school hours. This opens up doorways for the student or parent to ask questions about assignments and class discussions. The uses of classroom websites, e-mails, text messaging and student web sites are just a few examples of technology that is used to communicate with parents and students.
Overall school violence is one the most concerning problem we face currently. Steps have been taken to decrease school violence, but there is much more than can be done. Everyone just needs to work together to help reduce the number or violent crimes our students are committing every day. If we don’t then we’re only adding to the crime by not intervening and allowing it to happen. The violence needs to stop, and it’s not going to stop on its own.
Dave Reichert once said “Gang violence in America is not a sudden problem. It has been a part of urban life for years, offering an aggressive definition and identity to those seeking a place to belong in the chaos of large metropolitan areas” (Dave Reichert Quotes). These days, gangs are not only made up of adults on the streets, but teens who are in school as well. Various experts say that “gang membership is particularly widespread among urban youths under the age of 18” (Teen Gangs). As a result, gangs are now seen in many schools, and as a result may lead to increased violence among students. Schools must take a firmer stand against these gangs in order to reduce the increased violence.
Schools are supposed to be a safe environment where students can receive a proper education. Our modern American school system is failing in keeping our students safe. The way our society has changed can be seen in our schools and students. Issues that have been found in our students and schools have been brought to light in the past few years. It has forced the public to have a conversation about what is happening to our kids and in our schools.
Sometimes a student is successful in one area and having difficulty in another or a student has trouble using their words to communicate and becomes aggressive. At this center, the teachers have the tools to assess each child and the parents are interested in knowing the strengths and supports their child needs. The article Understanding Families, states that there should be “opportunities for families to discuss their beliefs about their children, what they want for their children, and how they support their children’s development” (Christian, 7). As conferences occur every 6 months, parents also communicate with the school and teachers via email and during drop off and pick up times. Another great example of parent communication is in the article Building Bridges from School to Home. The teacher builds relationships with parents by getting them to understand the areas that their child struggles and continues to strive in. Making sure they know that their child will master these skills when they are ready (Lawrence-Lightfoot, 2). At Staples Child Care Center, all teacher will assessments and observations about the child and a few suggestions that the child will benefit
According to the School Crime Supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (2007), “twenty-three 23 percent of students reported the presence of gangs on their school campus or in the surrounding area in 2007”. This indicates that there was an increase of twenty-one percent from 2003. Schools in urban areas seem to be affected the most by gangs, with thirty-six percent in 2005 vs, twenty-one in suburban area schools (Arciaga, Sakamoto, & Fearbry Jones, 2010).
Teachers, parents, and the students all become better communicators when being involved in the process of inclusion into mainstream schooling. The issue of school safety has become a controversial topic in the United States, due to tragic acts of violence occurring on a daily basis. American citizens should never have to cope with the negative impact of school violence, no matter how often they hear about the tragedies (Jones, "Parents" 1). In the past, schools were viewed as a safe place for children to get an education. Recently, the concern over violence in schools has taken a toll on many parents, school administrators, and legislatures (Eckland 1). Studies have shown that there are over 3 million acts of violence in American public schools each year. Not all occurrences are serious and deadly, but they occur on a daily basis throughout our country (Jones, “School” 6). This has caused many parents to worry about the well-being of their children while they are in class. This has also led to an increase in questions and concerns by parents and guardians. Many people have asked, “What are you doing about safety and security on my child’s campus” (Schimke 2). School violence is the cause of elevated worry and fear for their children, and school districts should enforce better security.
Parental involvement promotes the social growth of a child. Children whose parents are involved in their education have many advantages. They have better grades, test scores, long-term academic achievement, attitudes and behavior than those with disinterested mothers and fathers (Gestwicki, 2001). Parents becoming involved in their child's schooling creates extra sources of social constraint to influence the child's behavior (McNeal, 2001). For example, parents talking to their children and becoming involved in the school conveys a message to the child of education being important. Parents should be talking with your children's teacher and letting her know about your family. The more she knows about your child, the better she will be able to connect with your child.
Parents must have sense of ownership in their child’s success. Parents must know what is going on with their child at school and in their personal life. If there are negative indicators, action must be taken to correct these issues. A child’s success is affected by the interactions of the parents. If there are distracters in the personal life of the child it can be detrimental to their education; therefore, these distractions need to be minimized if not removed.
Parent teacher communication is very important to make sure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to everything educational related. Whether it is behavior or learning, a lot can be learned when parents and teachers communicate about their child and student. I know myself in particular I enjoy going to parent teacher meetings or IEP because I get to learn how my child is doing when they are not with me. It makes it possible for us to discuss what is working and not working with the students. Maybe the parents may have ideas to give the teacher when it comes to behavior or learning techniques for there child. The parent is with or near the child the other two thirds of the day. Communication is important for that everyone is on the same page, and that everyone’s main concern is helping the student succeed
Research shows that children do better in school when parents talk often with teachers and become involved. Kids whose parents interact with teachers usually get higher grades and test scores, develop positive attitudes about school, and are better behaved. Parents and teachers need to communicate on a regular basis, not just at parent/teacher conferences. But sometimes, a parent doesn’t know just how to go about getting involved or how to make that positive connection with the teacher and/or school.
There are many benefits to teachings having a good relationship with the student’s family, guardian, or parents. Teachers should begin the school year with building positive relationships with the student’s families. In the book it mentions that there is ongoing research that indicates the benefits of family involvement in children’s education. Some of these benefits mentioned were children earning higher grades, tend to have better attendance, have higher rates of homework completion, and are more motivated and have positive attitudes towards school. Through the reading it also emphasizes on the increase in family involvement in children’s education will result in a decrease in students participating in substance abuse and violence. Students
Parent involvement is one of the most influential aspects of student motivation. The parents are the initial teachers of the child before the child goes to school and encounters education through a teacher. If a parent is completely engaged in the learning process with a child, there can be growth between the child and the parent simultaneously. The parents set an example for the child, so that the child understands that help is in the classroom and at home. Alma Wright, a first and second grade teacher, believes that parents in the classroom are a good way to stimulate children. She says, “Their active participation is a positive influence.
