A family is referred to me because the parents have been using excessive punishment with their son and daughter. Whenever their children misbehave at school or at home the father beats them with a belt all over their legs and back and the mother does not beat them with a belt or other objects but she will slap them in the face if they are out of line or she will refuse to let them eat for a whole day if they do not do their chores or if they have a temper tantrum. The parents are wanting to change and find better ways to punish their children when they misbehave because they are at risk for losing their children to Child Protective Services if they do not change their forms of punishment. The reason people do this is because the child begins to associate being punished with the negative behavior. The child will not like the punishment and will want to avoid it in the future, so the child will stop misbehaving in that manner. I would explain to the parents that there are ways that you can punish a child who has misbehaved without the use of excessive punishments. Spanking is permitted in many U.S. States but it does very by state. I would inform the parents that in the state of South Carolina, it is legal to spank your child for punishment if for sole purpose of restraining or correcting, and the force has is reasonable in manner and moderate in degree. (Kidjacked Spanking Laws, 2014) I have always felt that spanking doesn't work. It can temporarily stop the unwanted behavior, but the most effective forms of discipline are those that teach children how to control their behavior. Spanking could teach your child to be afraid of you when they have done something wrong, but it does not teach the child the real consequences of their behavior. The excessive punishments they have used in the past has not worked for them and will only result in them losing their children. I will make sure I stress to the parents the importance of staying consistent in their methods of behavior change. These behavior changes will not happen overnight. Choosing not to spank their children is going to be difficult because it requires a little more planning, time and creativity. Because they are used to only excessive spanking, these other techniques can take time to get used to. They just need to continue to monitor the behaviors and the results of the methods they try so they can see what is working and what is not working so they can better adjust their techniques. There are also websites that I can direct the parents to that can help them in their adjustment to other behavior methods other than using excessive punishments. ... Filban’s experience is true or not. It might not be believable in some perspectives, but there is one thing that is true. This experience is unexplained, so it can be described as supernatural. The word normal means standard to common type of person. The word paranormal has come from two-word Pará and normal. Paranormal means things are not normal people do not know what is going on. Like scientists have no clue of what the world has to offer, so they just label it paranormal activity (Ford,1994 pg 1). The categories of paranormal activity are classification such as ghost, Bigfoot, and even the moth man these are some of the many that paranormal classify. So basically paranormal activity is things people think are there, but cannot prove that it exists.
There are many theories as to how someone or something becomes a ghost. This is called Paranormal which means beyond normal and scientific name is parapsychology, which means study of interactions between living organisms and their external environment that seem to transcend the known physical laws of nature (Britannica, 147). In 1920, Dr. William McDougall was the first scientific psychical who research about Paranormal Activity (Stefanik, 2000). According to Stefanik, Paranormal experiences often seem weird, uncanny, or unnatural. Typically they are quite rare but there are a few exceptional "stars" such as who have regular paranormal experiences and may show seemingly consistent paranormal ability (Daniel, 2004). Different types of scientists who researched about paranormal activity was spiritualists. The scientists accepted paranormal to be real. Parents also differ in their moods when delivering this controversial punishment, some parents are livid and others try and be loving and reason with the child. Another source of variation is the fact that spanking is often paired with other parenting behaviours such as, scolding, yelling, or perhaps raging and subsequently reasoning. A third source of variation concerns parental characteristics. Darling and Steinberg (1993) distinguished between the content of parental acts and the style in which it was administered (Holden, 2002). With all this variation researchers cannot definitively isolate the singular effects of spanking.
What do most people believe to be true about the topic? Spanking is the only resource that is most effective. Yet, there are several other types of punishments that can be used in place of spanking. In my opinion, spanking is not the most effective means of punishment. We tell kids growing up that “violence is never the answer” so why should violence, because technically speaking that is what spanking is, be the answer? Why not try to get a child to understand that their actions were wrong in a more non-violent way and not contradict ourselves.
