Recommended: Effects of suicide in teens

According to CDC’S 2015 research on the leading causes of teenage death, suicide is the second prominent mortality cause precedent to unintentional injury in the U.S. For instance, suicidal rates among American-Indians aged between 15 to 34 years were 1.5 times higher than the national average rates (CDC 2). The rising cases of teenage suicide present a significant public health concern. Some of the principal causes of teenage suicide include dysthymia, depression, and Bipolar disorder (Chen). Besides, stressful life events like divorce, poor academic performance, and estranged relationships with parents are significant risk factors of suicide in teens. Moreover, the study established that female teenagers are more likely to attempt suicide …show more content…

Some of the identified environmental risk factors for teenage suicide include stressful life events, depression, and mental disorders. However, in some cases, the factors as mentioned above have a minimal or no contribution to teenage suicide. This raises potential questions regarding the real causes of teenage suicide. According to some researchers, heredity and genetics have a significant contribution to teenage suicides. For instance, teenagers from families with prior cases of suicide are at high risk of committing suicide as compared to those with past clean family records (Kim and Dickstein).
