“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” This quote from Confucius describes why music is an important part of the fabric of humanity. Seventy-eight preschool children took part in the study. Thirty-four of the children received private keyboarding lessons, 20 received private computer lessons, and 24 “provided other controls.” Four standardized and age-calibrated tests were given to the children, one before and three after the lessons. The only significant increase that occurred was that in the keyboarding students. While the effect only lasted one day, this amount of time is considered to be long-term (Music Training Causes par. 1).
Studies have also shown that some background music can focus and calm children with special needs which in turn enhances their ability to grasp a concept or task (Crncec par.1).
