Alcohol is the drug of choice for most of the America's teens, used by the young individuals than tobacco or illegal drugs. There are 10.1 million underage drinkers in the United States 39% of current 8th graders, 58% of 10th graders, 72% of 12th graders, and 85% of college students have actually tried alcohol (The National Institutes of Health) (NIH). At the age of 18 usually separate teenagers from adults. But one cannot just legally buy a drink in America until the age of 21. In the time being, many states are now sending teenagers into the adult criminal justice system, even for crimes that were nonviolent. The social order age-specific methods often simmer down to limiting the freedom of the early and increasing their sentences. The drinking age has long been a tug-of-war. Is a 19-year-old developed enough to fight in Afghanistan but not to order a beer in a bar? Almost every other country sets the drinking age at 18 Jews, Italians, Greeks, French, Spaniards, Portuguese and many others normally familiarize their children to alcoholic beverages at an early age. They are less likely to be in alcohol-related problems than we do in the U.S. Alcohol not only causes deaths but causes depression and family related problems, on the other hand if the U.S were to lower the drinking age more underage drinkers would not think of it as such a bad thing and would not try and do it so much illegally. After people in the United States reached the age of 18 they are no longer reflected upon as adolescents. They have the right to choose their political leaders, purchase firearms, and even sign up for the military. They are considered legally independent adults. Now one of the most important details why the public feels 18 year olds should not be allowed to drink is because they are not developed enough. Well, if that is the case they why can they be mature enough to vote for a individual who is going to run our country, or responsible enough to fly an airplane and go to war for our country, and third be advanced enough to drive a automobile which is a cause of many injuries and deaths in today’s society. If they were to lower the drinking age the teens would not think of it as a bad thing and not do it as much as they would be doing it illegally. If the United States were to lower the drinking age we would have fewer problems with teens trying to get it illegally and overindulging, if they do not indulge it there would be less family related issues, and less physical and emotional pain.
