Construction of Main Arguments
The benefits of a high immigrant population are apparent in almost every walk of life. Their overall contribution to the general economy is show as a positive one and there improvements to the quality of the workforce are also quite note-worthy.
First, let us turn our eyes to something that is indisputable in economics. Even among those who claim that immigration isn't beneficial still have to accept the fact that overall the United States' gross domestic product (G.D.P) increases. The Center of Immigration studies' Camarota Steven (Immigration and the U.S. Economy 2010) an opponent to immigration states that the G.D.P. is increased by 0.24 percent. This may seem small and insignificant, but remember that the population of the United States is very large and G.D.P. is not the only thing that an economy gains from the introduction of more foreign labor.
Senator Larry Obhof (The irrationality of enforcement? An economic analysis of U.S. migration law) wishes for a policy that will increase the ease at which immigrant workers from countries such as Mexico can come work in the United States. He states the following points “ (1) Increase the quality of the workforce, (2) bring new ideas and know-how to U.S. Firms, which can lead to innovation, (3) transfer new skills and knowledge to their native coworkers, (4) increase diversity in the workplace...” Now lets take the time to look at each one of these points individually.
Increasing the quality of the workforce can be viewed as many things. To begin with we could say that it refers to the nice compliment that immigrants give to the native-born workforce. According to Immigration Policy Center (Strength in diversity, 2010) the immigrant populac...

... employees then it is on trying to develop a new machine for maximized efficiency which lowers the cost of the product and increases the amount that can be made with the fewer amount of employees. Regardless of the situation, the company will still strive to reach equilibrium and anyway they try to do that ends up being beneficial. It might not seem beneficial because the lower class did not receive employment, but if the overall cost of something goes down then anybody who purchases that product will be positively affected.
Overall, the native citizens that have been so unfortunately trapped in the lower within the United States are probably going to stay trapped. The quality of their lives will increase, but they will remain poor. Immigrants are a huge asset to the nation, and the small costs are for the greater good of everyone involved in the economic system.
The thesis discusses how researchers are divided on whether low-skilled immigrants impact the labor market and discusses how economists agree low-skilled immigrants fiscally impact the economy negatively. After the thesis, the authors then split labor market and fiscal impact into two separate discussions and explain each in detail to further support their claim. In the labor market effects paragraph, Zavodny and Orrenius support their claim in their thesis about researchers being divided by explaining the process researchers use to explain whether or not immigrants effect the labor market. After explaining the research process, Zavodny and Orrenius then sum up the facts presented in the article to further explain that immigrants actually help the labor market. In the fiscal impact paragraph, a paragraph about how immigrants might impact taxes and tax payers, they go into detail to support the claim of immigrants and how they negatively impact the economy fiscally. The authors explain to their audience how to find the fiscal impact of immigrants then explain, using statistics, how they fiscally drain taxpayers. Zavodny also explain how the state and local government bear the troubles immigrants have on the economy
The other aspect is that illegal immigrants have positive effects in the U.S economy by decreasing consumer cost. Most of the illegal immigrants came to the U.S to fill the secondary labor market; therefore products and services become cheaper because illegal immigrants work for lower wages, thus providing a kind of subsidy to American consumers. Nadadur Ramanujan in his article “Illegal Immigrants” states that, “Because illegal immigrants serves to allow businesses to minimize their cost of production in the secondary sector, it positively impacts income of all native workers by decreasing
The first increasingly significant benefit that should be noted is the sheer work force that immigration provides. Due to the Baby Boomers, the native work force will not be a...
There are undoubtedly negative consequences of immigration for people native to America. Most of these problems are rooted in the fact that immigrants take jobs that could be filled by Americans, while so many Americans are still unemployed. According to “Do Illegal Immigrants Actually Hurt the U.S. Economy?”, published by New York Times, “Undocumented workers have lowered the wages of U.S. adults without a diploma - twenty-f25 million of them - by anywhere between
Immigration can be defined as passing foreigners to a country and making it their permanent residence. Reasons ranging from politics, economy, natural disasters, wish to change ones surroundings and poverty are in the list of the major causes of immigration in both history and today. In untied states, immigration comes with complexities in its demographic nature. A lot of cultural and population growth changes have been witnessed as a result of immigration. In the following paper, I will focus on how immigration helps United States as compared to the mostly held view that it hurts America.
The United States cannot afford to lose the economic gains that come from immigrant labor. The economy would be suffering a greater loss if it weren’t for immigrants and their labor contributions, especially during the 2008 U.S. recession. The U.S. economy would most likely worsen if it weren’t for the strong labor force immigrants have provided this country. Despite the mostly negative views native-born Americans have towards immigrants and the economy, their strong representation in the labor forces continues today. Immigrants aren’t taking “American” jobs, they are taking the jobs that Americans don’t want (Delener & Ventilato, 2008). Immigrants contribute to various aspects of the economy, including brining valuable skills to their jobs, contributing to the cost of living through taxes, and the lacked use of welfare, healthcare, and social security when compared to native-born Americans, showing that the United States cannot afford to lose the contribution immigrants bring into the economy.
America is known famously throughout the world with the nickname 'The melting pot.' The reason behind this is that America is extremely diverse and has many different people. Immigrants give America the chance to know the culture of many countries. They bring in their culture, religion, economic benefits, and ideology to America. I believe that the United States should allow legal immigrants from all over the world because they bring many benefits to it. Immigrants are a positive influence on United States of America.
Some would say, quotes John F. Kennedy, “Everywhere immigrants have enriched and strengthened the fabric of American life.” Thus, in today’s society, we can say that immigrants are what made America possible—economically and socially. We are in a melting pot era where the impossible was made possible. From the time John F. Kennedy was elected in 1960, making a promise to change the national origins system to unite the nations of all countries equally. Hence, in 1965, under Lyndon Johnson’s administration, Kennedy’s promise came into light, amending the INS—favoring unification of families, not national origins. Although, the unification was made possible, the peacefulness never lasted.
Have you been searching for a book that will inspire you, but just can’t seem to find one? Well your prayers have been answered, because I have the book for you. The Immigrant Advantage by Claudia Kolker will do the job. The novel was published in 2011 by Free Press. Claudia Kolker is an award-winning journalist, who has written for The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Economist, and The Oprah Magazine.
As an effect legal immigration would make way for new jobs and if more people had more jobs they would more likely invest in the economy. Many immigrants remain illegal due to the long and rigorous applications and tests required to become a legal citizen. As well as hard tests, the fee to apply is a substantial amount especially for poor immigrants looking to immigrate for economic reasons (Swain). Many immigrants protest to lower fees to allow for a more efficient way to gain citizenship. Politicians debate on whether to lower fees often (EdTech). Many politicians believe if the fees where lowered it would allow a large number of immigrants into America. Allowing large number of immigrants could have both positive and negative effects. Crime rates could be increased, at the same time jobs would be created and the economy would begin to increase due to the amount of money spent in
Those who support immigrants being protected by the law believe that immigrants help the economy by creating lower wages which enables companies to make better profits. According to Becky Akers and Donald J. Boudreaux, immigrants “should be allowed to contribute to the United States economy in the Constitutional and legal precepts that guarantee all immigrants the opportunity to pursue life, liberty, and happiness in the United States” (22). If immigrants were not here in the United States, the jobs they do might not even get done by anyone else (Isidore 103). Immigrants fill up the jobs that many Americans do not want. “Specialization deepens. Workers’ productivity soars, forcing employers to compete for their time by offering higher pay” (Akers and Boudreaux 25). As researcher Ethan Lewis said, “Economics professor, Patricia Cortes, studied the way immigrants impact prices in 25 large United States metropolitan areas. She discovered that a 10-percent increase in immigration lowered the price...
The former option has yielded excellent results for the United States, with immigrants owning almost one in five of the small businesses in America (Bass). The latter keeps a country’s workforce filled with workers who are at an ideal age for work, thus balancing out workers loss from retirement. Many people worry that with the large influx of immigrants coming to countries like America, they will be left with no resources as a native-born citizen. A government’s job should be to accommodate the citizen’s reasonable needs.
Immigration poses an ongoing debate in which people are becoming increasingly unsure as to whether immigrants are benefiting their society. This paper will examine three of the main benefits of immigration: the increase in diversity it provides, the rise in skills and labor and the benefits to the economy. Immigration leads to cross-cultural integration, therefore increasing ethnic variety. This increase in diversity is beneficial as it leads to improvements in society, as well as educational development. Increased immigration also means there are more skills and experts available to the hosting countries, as well as extra workers to take up jobs that need filling. Immigration also leads to improvements in the economy as taxes are paid and employment and wages increase.
Immigration is positive for our country’s economics although illegal immigration is negatively impacting our country.
Firstly, there are several advantages of immigration for countries such as economic growth, cultural exchange, distribution of population and low cost labor. One of the major benefits is economic growth. Globalization plays a prominent role in immigration. Immigration brings innovative ideas and makes good career. Moreover, global market appears only due to immigration. According to Dogra (2011), there are many benefits in terms of economic growth to a country. Immigration is a process which increases consumers by a large percentage. Furthermore, it is very beneficial for companies to get profit and sell their products in their relevant field. In addition to it, more and more immigrant’s leads more sales taxes it helps to a country to boost
