Andrew Johnson
The day was April 15, 1865. The American Civil War had just ended a week ago when the Confederacy surrendered to the Union. Just six weeks before, Abraham Lincoln was reelected for his second term as president, and helped lead the North to victory. However, on April 15, President Lincoln was tragically assassinated in Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC. A new President would have to step up and lead the country. If the assassin’s plan had been completed, Vice President Andrew Johnson would have also been killed. Fortunately, the plan did not go through, and Andrew Johnson would soon be elected President to help the United States out of it’s worst time.
Andrew Johnson was born on December 29, 1808 in Raleigh, North Carolina. His parents, Jacob and Mary Johnson, were both illiterate. His father made a living as a hotel porter and a bank janitor in Raleigh. When Andrew was only three, his father died while trying to save two of his wealthy employers from drowning. “His mom worked as a spinner and weaver to try to feed Andrew and his brother William. She then married Turner Daugherty, though he did not make much money either.”(Trefousse)
At fourteen, his parents apprenticed Andrew and William to a local tailor shop. The two boys worked at the shop for several years, until they decided to run away together. After being on the run for two years, Andrew decided to return home to Raleigh in 1826 and reunite with his family. Andrew and his family then moved west to Greeneville, Tennessee, where seventeen-year-old Andrew set up his own tailor shop.
Andrew had tried to teach himself to read before from a book he got as a gift, but he never learned the basics of English, until he met his wife, Eliza McCardle. Andrew firs...

Zaddie Johnson had to work hard as a child unlike James Lincoln who had an easy childhood. Johnson was born in 1918 in East Gadsden on a Paden farm. Johnson’s family were sharecroppers during the 20’s and 30’s. Her parents had eight children and she had to work on the farm with her brothers. She said, “Women had to work like

Andrew Jackson was born in a backwoods settlement in the Carolinas in 1776. His parents, who were Scotch-Irish people. They came to America two years before Andrew was born. His mother was widowed while pregnant with him. At age thirteen, Andrew joined the patriotic cause and volunteered to fight the British. He and his brother were both captured and imprisoned together by the British. Their mother got them released by a prisoner exchange, but his brother died on the long trip home from smallpox. During his independent days, he lived in a tavern with other students.
Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767, in the Waxhaw settlement, a community of Scotch-Irish immigrants along the border between north and south Carolina. As far as I know they are still disputing his place of origin. he claimed that his place of origin was actually south Carolina though in my opinion if he said he was from there he was from that location. His father had died before his birth Andrew’s mother had three sons and was living with her Crawford relatives. Jackson was attending local schools and received an elementary education.
President Jackson singlehandedly led the destruction of the Native Americans with his aggressive actions and hostile decisions. President Jackson shirked his responsibility to protect the Naïve Americans of the United States by ignoring the Supreme Court’s decision, promoting legislation to bring about the separation of Native Americans and whites, and his decision to involve United States Armed Forces against Indian Tribes. If it was not for President Jackson’s actions, the future of the Native Americans would have been different or at least
Andrew Johnson was born on December 2, 1808 in a log cabin in Raleigh North Carolina. His dad was Jacob Johnson; unfortunately he died when Andrew Johnson was only three years old. His mother, Mary “Polly” McDonough was a constable of Raleigh North Carolina in 1801. When he was fourteen years old his brother William and himself apprenticed under a local tailor. Soon Andrew got tired of the constraints that were on him from the apprenticeship. Andrew and William decided to run away from their life. Later they decided to come home and the entire family moved to Greeneville, Tennessee. There Johnson decided to open his own tailor shop. On May 17, 1827 he married Eliza McCardle. At this time Jo...
Robert Johnson I went down to the crossroads fell down on my knees. Robert Johnson went to the crossroads and his life was never the same again. The purpose of this essay is to tell you about the life of Robert Johnson. He is the root of much of the music of today. If he didn't influence the musicians of today directly, he influenced the bands that influenced today's music.
Andrew Jackson’s presidency could easily be described as one of the most controversial ones of all time. Honoring Jackson by putting his face on the 20 dollar bill in 1928 was an absolute mistake for the country. Jackson does not deserve his existing place on the 20 dollar bill. His policies towards the “Spoils System”, Native Americans, and Vetoes can all establish why Jackson is so unworthy of praise. Jackson’s abuse of power throughout his entire presidency makes him the perfect target for a deserved hatred from the American people.
A must be correct, because Andrew Johnson consistently advocated for pro-Union and Democratic beliefs through his actions and words. Page 545 of the textbook explicitly states that Johnson was immensely loyal to the Union. He was a southerner that vehemently opposed wealthy plantation owners and African Americans. Johnson believed in limited government, which was also a principal belief for Democrats. Lincoln, a Republican, initially appointed Johnson to be his vice presidential running mate to contrive unity between Democrats and Republicans (Tindall & Shi, 545). Once unity was established, the votes would sway towards Lincoln's party due to having both a Democrat and a Republican running together; if Johnson weren't a Democrat, he would not have been chosen by Lincoln at all.
Have you ever wanted something really bad? Like maybe a new toy or a higher job position? Imagine getting that thing you wanted most after working so hard for it and then losing it right after. It must be the worst feeling ever. Now put yourself in Abraham Lincoln’s shoes. You’ve just been inaugurated as president and days later you unfortunately get assassinated. President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865 in Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C. (Abraham Lincoln’s Assassination). Abraham Lincoln’s assassination was an untimely event that slowed down the process of reconstruction after the Civil War (Effect of Lincoln Death on Reconstruction). The assassination increased the north’s hate towards the south (The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln pg.51). With Lincoln dead, there was no one to control the Radical Republicans who wanted to punish the south (Effect of Lincoln Death on Reconstruction). When Lincoln died he was replaced by President Andrew Johnson who had a bad relationship with the Congressmen (Effect of Lincoln Death on Reconstruction).

James a Garfield was born, the youngest of four, in orange Township, Ohio on November 19, 1831 (Duckster). His father, Abraham Garfield, died when James A.
