Sport is one of the largest mediums that corporations can utilize to get that mass message out to their customers. Many of us have different ways that “tickle” our fancy so to speak. What interests one does not necessarily interest another, but, even if one person can convince others to try a product or service a domino effect may occur. Corporations are always trying to “spice” up their advertisement. They probably do this to see if they can manipulate a consumer to try their service or product. For example, Budweiser has been running beer ads for many, many years and incorporated comedy into their commercials. They went from frogs to lizards to obnoxious acting. In my opinion, people are swayed by these tactics and tend to try a Budweiser beer more often than they had.
Belgium is known for a culture of high-quality beer and this concept was formulated by an electrical engineer from Fort Collins, Colorado. The electrical engineer, Jeff Lebesch, was traveling through Belgium on his fat-tired mountain bike when he envisioned the same high-quality beer in Colorado. Lebesch acquired the special strain of yeast used in Belgium and took it back to his basement in Colorado and the experimentation process was initiated. His friends were the samplers and when they approved the beer it was marketed. In 1991, Lebesch opened the New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) with his wife, Kim Jordan, as the marketing director. The first beer and continued bestseller, Fat Tire Amber Ale, was named after the bike ride in Belgium. The operation went from a basement to an old railroad depot and then expanded into a custom-built facility in 1995. The custom-built facility included an automatic brew house, quality-assurance labs and technological innovations. NBB offers permanent, seasonal and one-time only beers with a mission to be a lucrative brewery while making their love and talent visible. In the cases presented by the noted authors (Ferrell & Simpson, 2008), discusses the inception, marketing strategy, brand personality, ethics and social responsibility that New Belgium Brewing Company has demonstrated. The key facts with New Belgium Brewing Company are the marketing strategy, promotion, internal environment and social responsibility with the critical issues of the public, brand slogan, growth and competition.
As it is known that there is a stigma towards beer produced in particular provinces such as the current perception and appeal towards Albertan produced beer, Big Rock must engage in a marketing campaign to remove the emphasis that Big Rock is an Albertan produced beer. Alternatively, Big Rock should market its brand as a Canadian produced premium beer that takes pride in its ingredients and taste. For example, Alexander Keith’s was originally positioned as an Atlantic Canadian beer but following a vigorous advertising campaign, the brand was still able to maintain the maritime values of being social, sharable and approachable. Alexander Keith’s was subsequently able to communicate these values nationally. Furthermore, Alexander Keith’s emphasis on taste which was possible due educational initiatives such as offering “on-premise” experiences, allowed the brand to become one of the leading premium beer brands in Canada today.
Late night driving home, and a strange man is on the side of the road with an axe, but hey, he has Bud Light so why not offer him a ride? In this video ad of Bud Light a couple is lost at night in what seems the middle of nowhere. Seeing a man with an Axe carrying Bud Light Case, the male seeing that he has Bud Light wants to offer him a ride; they pull over and he gets in the car. A glass and bottle of Bud Light appears and the words “Always Worth It” displayed (Viral 0:24). In this ad, it attracts a white male, and female audience that has low income, and between the ages of 21 and 30, which makes sense because Bud light sell more to Hispanic males that have low income rate, and are between the age of 55-65 (Bud Light Consumer). The commercial will try to persuade you using ethos, logos and pathos. The ad shows that avid Bud Light drinkers will in
In 2011, Dr. Pepper 10 released a new ad campaign. Their new commercial’s primary purpose is to present a soda that is both healthy and still “manly.” In doing this, Dr. Pepper addressed a longstanding notion that Diet Dr. Pepper and Dr. Pepper Zero sodas are inherently unmanly. They attempted to reconcile this societal belief by creating a character that is extremely manly and still enjoys their 10 calorie drink. The average man is the target audience. They were hoping that they could target men that may want to drink more healthy beverages while still retaining their manliness. The character that Dr. Pepper creates to target this audience is a Paul Bunyan type. The actor has a long beard, is very rugged looking and shown being rowed down a river by a bear. The commercial is designed to bring back images of Grizzly Adams.
An effective advertisement is able to persuade its viewers by providing informative facts about a brand that help create a sense of liking, which will enhance certain attitudes and feelings about the brand from the target audience. If an advertisement is effective it will be able to persuade its target audience. The persuasive appeals used in the Bud Light Party advertisement are source likeability, humor appeal, and appeal to broad cultural values, specifically patriotism. Everywhere we go we are told what to wear, what to drink, how to look, and so on. Be it by billboards, newspaper, television, magazines, it’s everywhere. That being said, advertisements have a great influence on our lives. While researching ads for a similar products from two different American time periods, I came across two beer advertisements – one from the 1950s and one in the 1990s. In the 1950s, beer advertisements focused their attention on family, specifically how a mother and a father, supporting and maintaining a household, should enjoy beer. Yet, in the 1990s, beer advertisements main focus was on the male consumer. What do men like more than beer? Yes, women. The advertisement industry utilized attractive women to be associated in the ads but have no necessarily affiliation with the product. The difference between these two ads show about American culture is that back then it was about gender roles and nowadays is about sexism. Beer advertisements should not be in local advertisements because the message exhibits stereotypes. Since the early days of time the stereotype o...
It is undeniable that marketing plays a major role in the success of consumer products, and that campaign tactics have changed throughout the years. One company, though, is changing the game and has become a new leader in the industry. Bud Light, has transformed the consumer products market through the new, extensive use of hyperreality. These hyperreal campaign strategies differ from the traditional campaigns in that they now focus on concepts like energy and experience rather than interest and action; and have had tremendous success in appealing to the millennial generation.

For many years, beer has accumulated the mainstream idea that beer is typically consumed in the party-type scenes. It has also created a popular thinking that young men that drink beer are manly, wild, girl-loving, partying individuals. Recently, however, it has seemed as though beer companies have begun to stray away from that way of thinking and have begun forming a new ideology. That being, that beer is an alcoholic beverage that can bring people together to have a good time. Guinness has taken this way of thinking and pushed it even further. With this ad, Guinness wants to show that men who drink beer can still be manly, but also sensitive, sympathetic and supportive at the same time. They show these qualities through the actions of the men playing the basketball game.
In dealing with New Balance’s weakness in the area of marketing it would be beneficial for the company to find a celebrity to endorse their product line. New Balance has always been against celebrity endorsements which emphasize fashion trends and sway potential customers more by popular personalities than by performance and function. This has severely limited the company’s ability to reach the same kind of global awareness as its competitors. New Balance should find a serious, yet well known athlete who holds to the same kind of ideals as the company, to endorse their brand. This will create the type of brand recognition that they need in order to stay competitive.
In conclusion, I think Coca-Cola has done an excellent job of presenting the claims, supports, and warrants of it’s products in this ad. They have used many different tactics and hidden meanings to get this ad across; when their main concern is to make the ad appealing to the ordinary woman. A woman who is always in search of the perfect body, and the great memories of her high school years.
