Alternative Energy

Every day, many fossil fuel consuming contraptions spew out gases that pollute the environment. However, when the fuel supplies for these devices run out, they will grind to a halt. To prevent this, the United States needs to find an alternative to unstable and polluting energy sources before it’s too late (Rouge). It also needs to advance in technological status in order to stay above advancing third-world countries, and retain its current level of hegemony (Glaser). Space Based Solar Power Satellites, which are satellites that collect the sun’s energy and beam it down to the Earth, solve for all these concerns (Rouge). Thus, the United States Federal Government should provide grants for research, development, and implementation of Space Based Solar Power, in order to solve the impending energy crisis, preserve US hegemony, and help the environment recover from the damages caused by fossil fuels.

The scale of the looming energy crisis is so great that it warrants another look at rejected alternative energy ideas, mainly Space Based Solar Power. Most of the United States’ fuel comes from fossil fuels, which may no longer be able to sustain the world’s energy supplies for much longer (Glaser). Therefore, the United States must act before it’s too late, and find another alternative energy source that is capable of sustaining the world’s energy needs. Fortunately, Space Based Solar Power has the potential to produce enough energy to solve for all its problems. The amount of energy that a single Solar Power Satellite transfers to the earth in one year is equivalent to the amount of energy contained in all the world’s current fossil fuel supplies (Kotler). Thus, Space Based Solar Power is a feasible alternative energy source, as it h...
