Abraham Lincoln: The Great Leader
Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents of the United States. During his attempt to keep the Union in the Civil War, he gained more power and authority than any president before him. He was an excellent politician, and was always looked upon for leadership because he put reason and thoughtful decisions behind his word. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hodgenville, KY .He was raised in a log cabin built by his father, Thomas Lincoln. His mother’s was Nancy Lincoln. He had one older sister, and a younger brother that died as an infant. The Lincoln family moved frequently from Kentucky to Indiana, and back to Kentucky. He never had a normal full education. He read two books that truly left a lasting impression on his life, these books inspired him and motivated him throughout his life. When he was nineteen he reached his full height of six feet four inches. He held small jobs such as a clerk, postmaster and a few others through his early twenties. He assured his cabinet that the Emancipation Proclamation would only apply to states that belonged to the Confederacy only. That was a major cause of the Civil War. Throughout history we often see Abraham Lincoln as a great president, whose words and action inspire people throughout the nation to change the mindset of how we think about the importance of human lives regardless of race and ethnic groups. Lincoln an outspoken challenger against expansion of slavery, defied and articulated in his campaign issues that supported and encouraged slavery and this made him rise up the political ladder to become one of most powerful president that the American has ever had. President Lincoln has had numerous achievements, such as ending slavery, modernizing the economy, and preserving the Union. Lincoln is famously known for ending slavery. He issued the Emancipation of Proclamation. The presidential proclamation was issued during the American Civil War. Lincoln stated in his speech, "I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of states, and henceforward shall be free."
Abraham Lincoln compared to other president in my opinion is the best president and he lived in Illinois for a long time because of being a lawyer he may have been seen of being very tall and grim but he was actually a loving person that was always with his family and making sure that if they were sick he would help them the best he could but sadly almost all his sons died.
Lincoln had a preliminary proclamation back in September 22, 1862. The reason President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation was because, "slaves in Confederate states which were not back in the union by then would be free, but slaves in the border states were not affected. The president knew the proclamation was a temporary military measure and only congress could remove slave permanently, but had the satisfaction of seeing the 13th Amendment pass a few months before his death." In other words Lincoln wanted to give slave states their rights of freedom, but the slaves along the border wouldn 't get that right of freedom because of where they were located and who they were for. Lincoln was born to poverty in Kentucky in 1809 and settled in Illinois at the age fifteen. He was captain of the militia in Illinois during the Black Hawk War of 1832 and served four terms as a Whig in the state legislature and in Congress, from 1847 to 1849. He did the unthinkable to many people because of the severity of the decision; he emancipated slaves in the United States. This caused him to be dubbed ‘The Great Emancipator’. His father, Thomas Lincoln, “was a migratory carpenter and farmer, nearly always poverty-stricken” . His mother, Nancy Hanks, did not play a large role in his life as she passed away when he was nine years old. Abraham Lincoln is regarded by many Americans as the greatest president to ever hold office in the history of the United States, and his reputation is definitely well deserved. Lincoln wasn't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was convinced that within the branches of government, the presidency alone was empowered not only to uphold the Constitution, but also to protect, and defend it. Lincoln was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from splintering during the devastating times of the Civil War. As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization, and he rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that changed the war into a battle for freedom and declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy. That November, Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address, which stated how a country must be dedicated to human freedom in order to survive. He dedicated the battlefield to the soldiers who had perished, and called on the living to finish the task the dead soldiers had begun. Over the course of the past years, there have been many presidents and debates whether or not they have been beneficial to the United States of America. Even though there have been other great presidents, people should know that Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president was unquestionably an astonishing president. He was a great president because of how he: lead the union to victory, helped slaves to freedom, and issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
His Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, which approved the act of freeing 3 million slaves and abolishing slavery altogether. One of Lincoln’s famous sayings is “I am naturally anti-slavery.
