Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is immoral and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” 1 These pro-life believers do not support the idea of induced abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staffs. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions1. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice. Pro-choice believers support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. As an example; a woman is raped by a man and becomes pregnant with his child. She decides she doesn’t want to keep the baby; she has an abortion because the idea of raising a child of her rapist is too painful for her to cope with. Pro-choice defenders take sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a murderer by pro-life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because of the choice she has made about her own body. That’s what pro-life supports. Often time’s situations like this turns into harassment which can be considered to be part of anti-abortion violence1. These pro-life supporters stalk, threaten, and even sometimes kill women who have chosen to have an abortion and even the doctors that provide the procedures. Pro-life also supports the idea that every child has a right to live, even if the mother is not financially able to supp... ... middle of paper ... ...Imagine that those abortions had not occurred with the current population issue in the world, there are over 7 billion people on the planet and we have limited resources which are depleting quickly. So in a strange way abortion is beneficial to the planet. Pro-life supporters do not see the situations, reasons, and benefits from abortions. They are ignorant to the reason why many women choose to make the decision they do. It is clear abortion should remain legal; even if it seems immoral it can often be the best situation for the people that have to make that tough decision. Pro-choice defends and protects the people, it is ultimately the woman’s life that would be affected and no one else’s, who would the government be to take that away from us the people? We live in a country based on freedoms, and women have and should continue to have the freedom to that choice.
Pro-choice activists only focus on the positives of being able to choose whether a woman can keep her baby. They don’t look at the risks that come with abortion like “shame, guilt, and regret” (Chittom & Newton, 2015). Abortion doesn’t only effect a woman mentally, but also physically. There is a possibility of death or complications when having an abortion. Anything can go wrong even if it is rare for it to happen. I don’t believe a woman should put her physical health at risk in order to kill her own baby. It sound harsh saying the word “kill”, but that is the reality. Pro-choice supporters try to shy away from using phrases like “killing” and “baby” because of how harsh it sounds. They would rather use words like “fetus”, “embryo” and “annihilate”. Using those word make the reality of killing an innocent baby seem less harsh. They bring up reasons to support their stance like stating that “a woman must have the power to control a decision as significant as parenthood, and that individuals should be able to influence decisions to the same extent that those decisions affect their lives” (Anderson, 2015). Their reasoning isn 't good enough. A woman can have the power to make her own decisions at another time. She can decide many things for herself, but abortion shouldn 't be one of
Abortion is a very controversial and sensitive topic in today’s society. Two different sides to this argument is pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life proponents believe in the right to life for unborn fetuses saying that abortion should be considered murder regardless of how far along in the pregnancy the woman is. Pro-choice advocates people who believe the woman carrying the fetus should be able to make her own decision on aborting the fetus.
Pro-choice is an escape from the harsh reality that abortion is the murder of millions of innocent lives. Activists also believe that killing infants because they are severely handicapped is morally acceptable. They are of the opinion that a life can be terminated by the hands of a physician; in my opinion, only by God. That is how pro-choice activists represent themselves.
”The pro-life movement seeks to force their moral beliefs on others - grounded in their own religion or personal philosophy. The pro-choice movement doesn 't make claims on the morality of abortion - we leave that as an individual choice for every woman faced with an unwanted pregnancy. If they feel abortion is wrong and they want to give their child up for adoption, or keep it, we will support their decision. Pro-life people say "Abortion is wrong;" we only say
There are many views on what is considered right when talking about abortion, whether you are conservative and believe that abortion is wrong, or liberal and believe that no matter what women should be allowed that option, abortion should always be an option. Many factors can be considered when deciding to get an abortion, if the female was raped, the pregnancy can harm the mother, or even if she's just not ready, abortion is never something to oppress. Saying that abortions should be banned is saying that we should rewind time to 1920 when women had to fight to have rights for themselves. Abortion is not a taboo, it is a solution for many women around the world, and choosing to support Pro-Choice means you support women as a
Pro-choice versus pro-life argues over the issue of what should be the right stance when dealing with the life of an unborn child. From the perspective of a person who is pro-choice, they believe that “individuals have unlimited autonomy with respect to their own reproductive systems, just as long as they don’t violate the independence of others.” Pro-choice also argues that the government should not have the right to decide whether a woman should exterminate her pregnancy or not. From their viewpoint, they believe that what should be legal in the eyes of the government is contraception use, celibacy, abstinence, and abortion for the first two trimesters of pregnancy. On the stance of pro-life, they argue that the government has a right
Those who agree with the laws on abortion are strong supporters of the woman's right to choose. Hence, they call themselves pro-choice advocates. These persons are in support of abortions no matter what the condition of the pregnancy. They believe in the woman's right to refuse to carry an embryo or fetus in her body. According to these people, a woman should be allowed to choose the best option for herself and the fetus at any time during her pregnancy.
People who are pro-life see abortions as gruesome since they are surgical procedures that take lives by scrapping or sucking the fetus out of the uterus of the woman's body. Others see abortions as a necessity. For example, if a woman is raped, the chances are she wouldn't want to take the child to term. She wouldn't want an everyday reminder of being a rape victim.
Pro-Choice advocates believe that abortion should be legalized because they feel it is necessary to empower women with choice. They have strong opinions that women are not subordinate, so they ought to be allowed to make moral decisions and should not be forced to have a child, but why should the child have to suffer for the wrongdoings of his mother? Since only women can get pregnant, male legislators have no right to vote on anything abortion-related because it doesn’t affect him personally. If an innocent woman is raped and later becomes pregnant, should she be forced to have the baby? Well, according to pro-choice believers, she should have the right to decide for herself if she wants an abortion. An innocent unborn baby definitely should not be punished for the crime and poor decisions of his father. The mother must stick out the tough nine months that it takes to be pregnant in order to save the life of the faultless developing child inside of her. Adoption is always an option, and a much better alternative to murder. Yes, a woman does have a choice, but there is always one morally right way to go when con...
There is, of course, an equally compelling case to be made that the true pro-lifers are the ones who support the life of the female – the living being, rather than the potential one. Women will need abortions, legal or illegal, and if we once again outlaw them, many will once again die from unsafe procedures. That was the reality in the United States before Roe v. Wade. What about the lives of the children who grow up without a mother, their mothers having died from unsafe abortions? What about the cases where women will die if forced to carry a fetus to birth? In these cases, pro-life is clearly on the side of reproductive rights. “Pro-life” can as easily mean reproductive rights as it can mean anti-choice. However, if one side claims the pro-life position, it denies the moral legitimacy of the opposing position.
To understand the prolife philosophy, one must look beyond mainstream media. Not only can they be bias about their reports, they can be at times completely incorrect. One must look to the prolife movement to get a better perception on what it means to be prolife. It is more than just a division between to ideas of right or wrong and freedom of choice. Many pro-choice activists know less of the actual abortion process than any prolife idealist, they feel as though it is simply just a decision that needs to be made about a situation. Contrary to their belief, it is so much more its scientific with new research surfacing all the time, it’s laws and protection, and the medical and physical side effects of this
Anger and heated debate have long fueled the controversy over abortion. Whether pro-life or pro-choice, both sides of the argument are convinced of the righteousness of their beliefs. There is, however, some confusion surrounding the term “pro-choice” – it does not directly pertain to the spread and use of abortion, but rather, “pro-choicers” advocate the continued legalization of abortion in order to make the choice available and to ensure that women’s fundamental rights are not subjugated. The stance that abortion should be available has its roots in economic concerns, psychological evidence, moral dilemmas, and the Constitution.
Being pro-choice advocates a womans right to control her own body, especially her right to an induced abortion (The Free Dictionary). Every person has the right to do what they wish to their own bodies. Before taking the pill, the patient must sign a patient agreement; agreeing that they have been informed of all risks, side effects, emergency contact information, instructions, and promising to return for the second and third follow-up visits. Since the patient has read and signed the patient agreement, they’re aware of what they’re doing to themselves. Different women have different reasons as to why they want an abortion. Having an abortion, either the medical or surgical way, a woman has the rights to do ...
When deciding if abortion is morally permissible the strongest argument is that fetuses are innocent beings and killing an innocent being is morally impermissible. Any being descending from a human makes it a human, and therefore a fetus is human. As a society we see murder to be immoral especially of an innocent person. Pro-life supporters argue that abortion is equivalent murder because life starts at conception, making a fetus a living person. Supporters believe a fetus has a right to live and wants to live. Abortion goes against the fetus’ right to live and it’s potential to become a member of society. It is the mother’s duty as a parent to provide for the child the best way possible, and that does not involve abortion.
Those who adamantly oppose abortion are regarded as pro-life and those who are supporters of abortion are considered pro-choice by contemporary standards. Even among those who advocate abortion, there are discrepancies in their views such as up until what point in the pregnancy is abortion morally permissible. In my opinion, abortion is morally permissible at any stage in a woman’s pregnancy. This is ethically acceptable because a woman should have the right to control what goes on within her body. Along with this, fetuses are still far from personhood (having the qualities of a human being); therefore, we cannot liken abortion to any variety of murderous activity.
