We were huddling around a campfire in the open darkness of the night. It was the only thing that brought us warmth in the brisk air. A light shot up into the air, crackling until, boom, an explosion of colour which radiated light. It was the night of all nights, which celebrated our national identity. I glanced across the fire, and caught a glimpse of Hazel. Her eyes were mesmerizing, crystal clear and blue as the depths of the ocean. ‘What more could you want? We're living the life free from everything and anyone who could tell us what to do’, said Hazel, as I awkwardly shifted my focus elsewhere. In a sky full of stars, a shooting star shot across the utter darkness of the night, like a diamond glistening in the sky. A place of the unknown and mystery lies beyond that shooting star. The moon was a glowing disc which shone over the horizon. For a moment, my mind drifted away from the amidst chaos which surrounded me. ‘Oh my god, oh my god you guys, these mosquitos keep attacking me!’ Jessica whined through her high-pitched voice. ‘Can I ask again, who was it that thought it would be a good idea to bring the girls to the exclusive boys camping trip?’ Toby moaned. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind blew out the bonfire, left us in complete darkness. Everyone went dead silent; the sound of a pin drop could be heard. Everything was in the darkness, with only the glow from the full moon to distinguish each other’s faces. ‘What if there are wolves? And drop bears! Wait, is there such thing as drop bears?
