Psychology! Is it a social studies or a social science? Should the study of psychology have a different meaning as a high school subject compared to a college subject? I say no! Both subjects should be classified the same. According to the Division of Social Science at Harvard University, “The social sciences [engage] broadly with the study of human society and social relationships. At Harvard, the Division of Social Science embraces a number of diverse and highly interdisciplinary fields including:” Psychology is listed. The Department of Psychology at Yale University claims scientific breakthroughs concerning the biological, emotional, cognitive, and social basis of normal and abnormal behavior based on the science of psychology. A primary objective at Yale’s department of psychology is to encourage research that follows from an understanding of the substantive and methodological bases of scientific psychology as well as from other social and biological sciences. Two top-notch universities have psychology classified as a science, a social science. Psychology is also listed under College of Letters & Science from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Psychology should be considered a social science because it’s the study of mental processes, human behavior, and it has the disciplines of both a science and social science.

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and its mental processes or cognitive processes. These processes include perception, introspection, memory, creativity, imagination, idea, belief, reasoning, volition, and emotion. Social studies use various aspects or branches of the study of human society, and are considered as an educational discipline. A science is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. A social science is the scientific study of human society and social relationships.
