The Importance Of Professionalism In Education

Professionalism is an important characteristic that all teachers should display towards colleagues and parents. Education has changed a lot over the years, and as we encounter the 21st century, acting like a true professional is still the way teachers should act. As an educator, it is important that I keep on improving my skills as a teacher, and Walden University is going to play a big role in my development and growth. I want to make a positive mark in society for my students. When you look at making a positive social change, it is easy to see the similarities in what professionalism means in the 21st century. I have a vision of where I want to go, and the MSED program is going to lead me in the right direction. For example, I want to be known as a teacher of high ethics and integrity, and someone that promotes equity with all students. The RWRCOEL Professional Dispositions state that candidates demonstrate professionalism outlined by legal guidelines within the profession and that the candidate demonstrates culturally responsive practices to create an inclusive learning environment that is respectful of diverse cultures (RWRCOEL Professional Dispositions, n.d.). Classrooms today are filled with students of diverse cultures and backgrounds, and I need to be able to address their needs. I will be collaborating with colleagues, students, administrators, and other stakeholders, so ethical behavior and integrity are a must for teachers.
