Sports Marketing I have choosen to use th XFL as a marketing vehicle for my energy/supplement bar. The XFL has been able to position itself as a fast paced hardcore football league. The nature of the leage would compliment the nature of my product in that people will assosiate my product with the action on the field. The league is focusing on a younger active audience and that is the same target market that I am looking to reach with my product. The high awareness and anticipation for the league makes this an ideal time for my product to be introduced to the market. XFL Introduction The XFL is trying to position itself in the sports entertainment market as a compliment to the NFL. They are not going to engage in direct competition with the NFL. Instead they are planning on playing their season during the NFL offseason and act as a minor league for NFL hopefuls. The XFL is hoping to motivate these players by offering them bonus incentives for winning and making great plays. They are starting off with an eight teamleague that is scheduled to play ten games from February to April. The teams which are in New York, Memphis, Chicago, Birmingham, Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Fransisco. Target Market The XFL is trying to attract two groups of people as their main audience, football fans looking to extend the NFL season and young people who might not watch much football right now. They are targeting these viewers with a more fast paced and controvercial style of football. They are going to have microphones on everyone so that they can hear what players are saying to eachother. They are hoping that this will add some excitement to the action on the field. They are going to encourage trash talking, endzone celebrations, and make the cheerleaders more involved in the game through interviews and their constant presence on the television. This is directly aimed at the younger audience and directly plays off the success that the WWF has had at attracting this audience. The second group of people that the league is trying to attract is the avid football fan who is looking to extend the NFL season beyond the Superbowl. They are hoping that these people will also be receptive to the changes that the XFL has made to the game but they also realize that it may turn off some of the older viewers.
The longer that football was on television, the more intense the publicity for the NFL became. The Monday Night Football Logo showed to helmets hitting together forcefully, the NFL marketed the violence and captured the tension between violence and the art of football.
Vince McMahon is at it again. Vince McMahon, the head of the World Wrestling Federation, is trying to work his marketing wizardry by establishing a new professional football league, the XFL. This extreme football league with all-access media coverage, hard-hitting action, and fast-paced wide-open offense is supposed to be the next great entertainment frenzy. I, for one, think this league will be flop after a season or two for many reasons such as lack of fan interest, poor quality players, and lack of real football.
First of all, the league will succeed because it has been geared towards the fans from the beginning. In contrast, the NFL only seems to care about its premadonna, million dollar superstars. Chuck Miller, a columnist for Football Digest, points out the perfect timing for the league. It starts up right after the Super Bowl and ends right before the basketball and hockey postseasons (58). The XFL has implemented many new rules to increase the excitement of the game. No fair catches, no kicking for PATs, and no “safety” rules to protect the quarterback are just a few of the rules changed in hopes of creating a faster more competitive game. Secondly, there are cameras and microphones everywhere, including on the benches, in the huddles, and all over the field. This will give the fans a new and different perspective than the average NFL game. The locker rooms at half time, a referee’s huddle, and even a player’s brutal taunts to the opposing team which are usually off limits to the average fan add to the thrill and emotion of an XFL game. Also, the price of an average XFL ticket is around a reasonable twenty-five dollars. These cheap tickets to a new and certainly exciting professional football league have many people believing this is truly fan-based entertainment.
In college there are hated rivals that can’t stand each other. This causes college fans to have lots of pride in their teams. College stadiums also have student sections, which take the atmosphere on game day to the next level. College players know how the fans feel. This inspires them to play their hardest, and leave everything on the field to represent their school. In the NFL, instead of playing for a team because you want to represent them, players will play for teams who offer them the longest and largest contracts. Players hold out from participating in training camp because they want a bigger contract, and some even sit out games. The NFL seems to be more like a business, and geared towards making money. NFL players holding out, and being focused on money angers fans. Not all players are like this, but fans feel that the ones like this are being
The researcher Ross goes onto talking about how the leagues have structured their specific leagues to a certain amount of teams and their aren’t allowed to be teams added to their leagues without a vote by the owners and it has to be a majority vote. Because of this leagues have smaller outputs which then have teams having higher prices for things. This causes communities to pay more to have the league want to expand in their area. Teams that are already in that area almost force the community to give them more money or they will relocate with the owner’s approval. Because of the scarcity of teams cities fear the loss of a team so much that they give them whatever they want ...
The NFL has become the most popular sport in the United States. It is watched my millions every weekend. The NFL is only growing in popularity. With new fans joining the fun every day. The NFL has faced its share of problems too. With concussions scaring away many future players, the NFL is hoping to lower the possibility of concussions in the future. Each NFL team plays a total of 16 games over a span of 17 weeks. There are two conferences in the NFL, the AFC and the NFC. There are four divisions in each conference, each with 4 teams. The playoff teams are decided by the division rankings. The winner of each division makes the playoffs, with the two best 2nd place teams making it in as a wild card.
The National Football League (NFL) averages 290 million television viewers a week, four times the population of the United Kingdom. Football has become a massive part of society, whether it is at home watching the game on television or playing football in school. It is a worldwide culture that keeps people active, entertained, and socially occupied, all while creating multiple jobs.
Football has been in the making for over 150 years. The foundation of football comes from rugby, a British sport and also incorporates war tactics. In the beginning, the game was unorganized because there were few rules and it was new to the players. But by the end of the Civil War, football had taken on a whole new look; it started to become the modern version that we are familiar with today (Kennedy 7-9). The development of football has changed the culture because, “Every town in America has at least one high school, football team that draws a big crowd” (Buckley 4). Therefore, without fall football, high school students and even parents would have nothing to do on Friday nights. Football games have added to the world of entertainment and continue to grow as a place for social gathering.
In the mid 1920’s, the league had grown to 25 teams and was growing at a very fast rate. Many college players had great interest in playing in the NFL. This would start to be the rise of one of the most popular sports America has ever seen.
A good football team combines strength and speed. Physical contact, especially involving blocking and tackling, is a basic part of football. The game also requires quick reaction and thorough preparation for each game. In addition split second teamwork is necessary in order to have a winning team like the San Francisco 49ers(my favorite team) one of the best team in the (NFL). There are several variation of football one of the two I know is flag football the other is touch football both of those variations eliminate the need for physical violence flag football and touch football are mainly used for elementary and high school programs such as intramural
"If industry is to be successful in dealing with public opinion . . . it must learn the language of the people, it must consider the study of public opinion as important as any phase of its operations. It must recognize that public opinion can be measured, and utilize the increasingly scientific methods developing today for gauging it"(Ross)
Alright, let’s break down this so called ‘super league’ to see the opportunities that are available for such a concept. Once an initial report of a ‘secret’ meeting about a super league was unveiled, reports of who else was involved and which teams would be included surfaced all

In the modern day United States the sport American football has become not only entertainment but also a tradition whether it’s watching the BCS college championship or watching the super bowl with the family. The sport of American football is unique to the United States and has grown and became iconic over the years and has become a part of many Americans lives. American Football was made in 1869 and was modeled after the sport of rugby. They took the basics of rugby and changed it to make it fit better for them. The game has changed over the years but it also affected many Americans as the tradition of Monday Night football has begun. The game has had problems with the United States government as it was said to be too dangerous to play, this lead to an upgrade in the equipment and they tried very hard to make the equipment well ensuring player safety throughout the sport.
