Senior year is an important time in a teen’s life. It is the year when we decide what we want to do, and who we want to be. The College or University we choose is a big part of this. I want to go to Dallas Baptist University to find ways to honor my father God, to become a beacon of Christ, and to help others. I’ve grown up with a single mother and a twin brother. Life has not been easy for my mom, between struggling to provide food, shelter, love, and faith. So when my brother and I started growing up she was worried about our lack of a father, but when we moved next to our family and to a Christian camp called “Camp Peniel” I quickly found my real father figure, God. God is the one who comforted me through bullying and teenage hormones, God …show more content…

Ashley is a woman who wears love, kindness, and Godliness as her fragrance. Through the week I spent with her in summer camp as an eight-year-old, I grew immensely in my Faith and decided this woman was the kind of person I wanted to be. God provided for me, as Ashley married my cousin years later, enabling me to see her all the time! She has been impeccably kind to me and a great role model when it comes to putting faith in God when the world is tough. That was when I became interested. When I visited myself, as earlier mentioned, I found the staff to be very welcoming and kind. I was scheduled for a tour, but couldn't find the right building, so I had to ask a lot of people around the campus for help. Every single person I talked to on my way was very kind and exuberated patience and friendliness, and when I finally found the right place, the tour guide was forgiving and helped me catch up on what I missed instead of leaving me to help myself. Everyone there answered all my questions, and when my mother and I mentioned troubles with financial aid, staff went out of their way to help us. Every person there acted like they wanted me there, …show more content…

I asked her what was wrong, and she told me her father had recently died in a car crash. She was not religious, but her father was, and had wanted to be buried. However, the family did not have money to provide a funeral for him and instead had to incinerate his body. I listened to her talk about it and broke inside when she said, “It was the one thing he wanted, and we can’t give it to him”. After she left, I called my mother and told her about the situation. “What if I got a job, started working?” “Emmy, that would take years to make enough”. “What if I ask the church for a donation? What about Grammy and Papa? I could pay them back!” “Honey, I’m so sorry, but I don't think you realize how much a funeral costs.” I sat down on the bench outside of my school and I cried. I cried, and I cried, and I cried because the one person who was a spiritual influence in this girl’s life was gone. When my mother picked me up, she told me what we could do was pray for her. So I prayed. Months later, I was sitting through another friend's key club meeting when I heard them mention a family whose father had died. I looked up and discovered they were indeed talking about my friend, and signed up for Key Club right away. In May, we are holding a foam run to raise money for her family. These changes are what I want to specialize
