I have never had much confidence with my writing, but I always felt like I was strong at creating an argument and proving it, or telling a great story, whether it be fact or fiction. But it has been a challenge trying to stay organized in my writing, avoid wordiness, and keep my writing rational and not filled with too much emotion. The ebb and flow of my emotions can really deter me from staying focused on what I am writing. And sometimes that can really take you away from my point. Based on feedback I have received on my writing, I can improve my organization, sentence formation, and being mindful of the audience I am writing for. I should proofread and make multiple drafts as I go through the writing process to help me focus on communicating my purpose clearly. In the past, I have written research reports, satires, argumentative essays, cause and effect essays, and compare and contrast essays. I have also written stories, both fact, and fiction. My favorite type of writing is fictional stories because I don’t have to site any sources. It is all coming from my imagination, which I could get lost in. I also love it because I can really put a lot of my personality into the characters. Other than the compare and contrast essays I did for an early education class about controversial issues that take place in the education system, nothing about my writing was directed at my program of study. Now that I am writing about things regarding elementary education, I will be very passionate about my writing. I know that I have to stay organized by outlining my thoughts, ideas, and research. I must be clear about my purpose, tone, and audience. I need to make multiple drafts and spend as much time proofing my work as I spend on writing it. I must manage my time and not procrastinate.
