The main reason for Puritans leaving England was religious strife, these Puritans immigrants were critical of the Anglican Church (the Church of England). Because of that, Puritans decided to migrate to new colonies, one of them was New England, and they hoped to reform the established religion from within. Unlike New England, the number of English settlers in Virginia died of illness, brutal winter and starvation.
