Personal Narrative: A Career In Counseling And Social Psychology

Throughout this course, we have been introduced to many specialization of jobs within psychology. While exploring, the two areas that I have the most interest in is counseling and social psychology. I have been drawn into these subfields because they both work directly with patients, allowing me to have a hands on experience. Also, I am looking at jobs that work with children in some way and these jobs have many jobs that would allow me to do this. Both fields are closely related, but deal with different types of patients. For counseling psychology, I would want to work with in the area of substance abuse or with abused children that deal with family problems at home. One job that interest me would be a school counselor. School counselors work in any level of education and aid students academically and socially, in trying to help them succeed in school. Continuing onto a Master’s degree, I would be able to become a social worker and work with people to help them solve everyday problems, diagnose, and find solutions. There would be a wide variety of places to work at, such as mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, community development corporations, and private practices.
