“No cuts this year,” the athletic director bellowed, exiting the field. I was surprised. I had no business being on my middle school soccer team, but my mom encouraged me to try out, so I gave it a shot. And I’m sure glad she did. I hadn’t played soccer since Salvation Army league in first grade, and my lack of agility and sub par ball handling skills would have had me cut from any other team. Luckily, the no cut policy granted me a roster spot.
