Every since I was a child I have had a passion for doing other people’s hair. When I was little I would use my baby dolls as clients and work on their hair until it was perfect and neat. I have chosen to be in the cosmetology field because I like to help other people with their needs and wants as well as mine. I am aware that while working in this industry I will work with many different ethnic groups and many different hair types. I feel I can do anything as long as I have the determination to do so. Many people go to cosmetology school to work for someone else, but I would like to open up a mini-salon out of my own home someday. I have many talents and interest that will help me succeed in the cosmetology field like communication skills, business skills, a sense of creativity and technical skills. Many people enroll in hair school to learn the basic fundamental skills to become an outstanding candidate in the field. A cosmetologist’s creativity skills, business skills and communication skills need to be very effective. Other skills are required as well, but without basic skills a cosmetologist will not succeed in the industry. How can you operate a business without knowing any of the basics? How can you work on someone’s head without knowing what style would fit their face perfectly? As a cosmetologist sometimes you have to let your client know its okay to try new styles and that everything will not always work on them. As new trends are invented or start to resurface from previous years you will need to stay updated. The evolution of cosmetology can be easily traced back to early as civilization times. Treatments should be applied to the hair as a protector before the chemicals are added because they can apply serious damage to the healthy hair. If the hair isn’t treated properly with several chemicals being added such as relaxers or dye, the hair can easily become dry, brittle, and create many split ends throughout your hair even rising up to the roots. As I was doing my research paper I did experience some difficulties because I didn’t stick with one topic in the cosmetology field like hairstyling, coloring hair, nails, and even trimming of the hair so that caused me to even research harder, but it’s nothing wrong with challenging yourself at times. Eventually one day I might decide to change my mind about working in the cosmetology field but for now I will stick with my main career goal. I lost a lot of interest over the weeks working on my senior project.
I am writing this letter of recommendation for Brandy Maiden’s proposal to add a Cosmetology course at UACCM. The cosmetology course is the professional practice of beautifying the hair, skin and nails. The career options are virtually limited, such as cosmetic chemist, aesthetics, make up artist, etc. The school can consider both needs of its production and input costs for overall structured curriculum further to review this proposal.

Cosmetology was created to help those that are in need of their desired look. To express every moment was second of who they are or will become to be. Even though, we have abundant stylist today throughout the country. This career may not be the most satisfying, fun, or even a high-ranking in income, but the satisfaction of each smile is more than enough. However, challenging cosmetology is one of the most creative of all art.
I chose Cosmetology to write about. Cosmetology is the study of hair, skin, and nails. You have to be at least 16 years of age and you have to go to school for eight months to two years. To attend a normal school it will cost you anything from 5,000 to 15,000 dollars but to go to a top school it will cost you anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 dollars. You will get paid based on how big and well your company is. If your company is big then you will earn about 12.72 an hour and that is 26,460 dollars a year or more but if you are the lower working or not as big 10 percent then you will earn about 16,710 or less a year. Not many Greeks were naturally blond, so light hair was probably perceived as beautiful because it was so exotic. Women would lighten their hair using plant extracts or arsenic. They also washed their locks with a mixture of ashes, olive oil, and water. Some peoples goal in life would want to complete is to become a licensed Barber/ cosmetology instructor. The main reason some do it is to own their own business where they can be their own boss. One day in the future it would be nice if a licensed individual him/her like to help some overcome the obstacles that they had faced in life mostly when people would put them down think they can do anything they put their mind to regardless of what people say or think and do. Once I graduate, I plan to become employed in an established salon to build my client list and experience. A lot of my style inspiration comes from vintage styles, 90’s punk styles, and vibrant colors. I hope one day to move west, continuing to learn and accomplish my goals.
All career fields have personal responsibilities including cosmetology. Being a beautician requires peoples trust because the client must have confidence that their hair, makeup, and nails will accentuate their finest features. Cosmetologists have been providing people with the luxury of not having to fix themselves up for decades, which is why the beauticians have an obligation in this age to make people appear more and more beautiful because of the modern techniques and technology used such as new brushes and sponges that allow foundation to look as if the skin is as smooth as silk. Becoming a beautician requires having personal responsibilities such as causing someone to feel beautiful on a special occasion by livening up their face, improving social skills to build positive relationships with clients and coworkers, and teaching people that beauty is not from the makeover, but the confidence brought out by the makeup and styling that shows who they truly are.
Wade described a typical day as interacting with a lot of people. “There is no typical day” (Higgins). The usual hours that a cosmetologist work can change depending on the place of work, but many cosmetologists work nine to five hours. Wade described the best part of the day for a cosmetologist is giving a cosmetologist what they want, and them being happy with it.
