Movie analysis on emotion and the reason behind it Kevin Loke 0546600 PSYC 3730 Seminar group: F01 Ripdaman Singh Trent University Jealousy is an emotion that many would experience in their lifetime. The trigger for the emotion jealousy differs for everyone but no doubt that people would experience this emotion a handful of times in their life. Many if not most people would develop jealousy during their time in a relationship regardless of the length of the relationship. Some researchers like Attridge (2013) consider jealousy a positive behavior because of the fear of losing one’s partner could mean the transition of one love style to another with an increase in one of the components. Specifically social isolation. Social isolation is the lack of social interaction with society or friends (Miller, 2011), neither which Edward had because he was not fully educated by his creator yet. Edward was all by himself in the mansion up the hill after his creator died. Because the creator died before he could teach Edward the basic lifestyle etiquette, Edward had hid himself in the mansion the whole time void of social interactions until Peg decided to venture into the mansion in hopes of selling cosmetics and ended up bringing Edward back to her home. The social isolation that Edward experienced since the death of his creator was quickly eased from him after he got introduced to the townspeople. The talent Edward had for having scissor as his hand was impeccable. He managed to capture the attention and trust of the townspeople in a short amount of time he was there. However, the attention that Edward had when introduced to the townspeople was short lived after he was arrested by the police for breaking and entering a home. Edward went back to his mansion after a few unsuccessful attempt of reconciliation with the townspeople. The study by Ahmetoglu, Swami and Chamorro-Premuzic, (2010) stated that reconciliation tactic was used to maintain positive relationship but it did not worked for Edward when he was trying to get back on the good side of the …show more content…

It was portrayed the most throughout the movie on both Edward and Jim. There are two distinct types of jealousy, reactive and suspicious. Reactive jealousy was considered as a good behavior and preferred by researchers like Attridge (2013). In the movie, Jim displayed multiple reactive jealousy towards Edward after he found out that Kim was in love with Edward. According to Swami et at., (2012), formation of jealousy is high when the perception of a partner’s value was ranked higher than their own. Jim thought that it was a waste for Kim to get together with Edward because she is out of his league. This is understandable as Jim and Kim was lovers and Jim was probably under the bias for love is blind. Besides that, the reactive jealousy that Jim had towards Edward was because he felt the physical threat of Edward taking Kim away from him. This lead to an argument that turned into a fist fight and ended with one party dead. Besides that, Jim and Kim were probably not lovers for long as Attridge (2013) argued that the longer you are in a relationship, the less suspicion you have on your partner’s infidelity. Peg and Bill portrayed that flawlessly as Bill was never concerned about Peg cheating on him even though she was spending a lot of time attending to Edward and helping him whenever he needs a helping hand. The portrayal of the relationship between Peg and Bill also supported the result from Acevedo
