Industrial Revolution: Turning Point In History

The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain and by the mid 18th century Britain was the world’s leading commercial nation controlling a global trading empire with colonies in North America and Africa. Therefore, the Industrial Revolution is called a ‘revolution’ and not a ‘movement’ because it marks a major turning point in history.
Revolution relates to the government, culture, and society which means that it was a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. It relates to the government because when America first separated itself from Britain, the founders tried to form it to the least amount of similarities with Britain's as much as possible. For this to happen, they had to ratify the Articles of the Confederation. Revolution also relates to culture because the beginnings of the fight for gender equality, women were on the rise as they began to challenge the concept of equality. During the industrial revolution though, these two new classes evolved and were named the middle class and the working class. The industrial revolution increased the material wealth of the Western world. It also ended the dominance of agriculture and initiated significant social change. The everyday work environment also changed drastically, and the West became an urban civilization. Radical new schools of economic and philosophical thought began to replace the traditional ideas of Western civilization.
