How to Stay in Shape Over the Holiday Season
The festive season is ripe with rich food, sugary treats and alcohol – making it tempting to over-indulge. What's more, all of the festivities can seriously mess with your workout routine! The best way to survive the holidays is to eat in moderation, make wise food choices, and continue to exercise – even if you simply take a walk around the park, or do some squats and lunges at home.

If you would like to squeeze in some training at home, try doing some squats, lunges, crunches and press ups. If the weather's good, exercise outdoors – go for a jog in the park, walk the dog, or ride your bike around the neighborhood.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) may be a good holiday workout for you if you have limited time to exercise. Try running at a high intensity for a few minutes – pushing yourself to the maximum – then walk for a minute. Repeat this for 30 minutes, three to five times a week.

If you're watching your weight, the festive season brings great temptation in the form of delicious food, but you don't have to avoid all of your favorite holiday treats if you practise moderation. The trick is to not deprive yourself completely of all of the delicious festive food, or you're likely to cave in and over-indulge. Rather, before eating, ask yourself if you really need or want what you're about to eat, or if you're just eating because the food is there. Decide your limit regarding food and alcohol before a social event or meal, be mindful about what you put on your plate, and don't go back for seconds. It often helps to eat a light, healthy meal a couple of hours
