Depression is a sickness that increasingly affects people all around the world, inferring with compassion, and an abounding amount of other conditions of daily operating. It’s a perplex disease, correlating the arrangements of the human body, which is in conjunction with the immune system, either as the cause or a response. Although Depression is unnoticed by some to not be an illness, they are inaccurate because Depression requires medication and has abundant effects on the body and brain, just as other identified illnesses do. Depression has side effects just as average diseases do. Depression can cause weight changes, difficulty sleeping, decreases energy, and even causes thoughts of death and suicide. It affects a human body and minds mentally and physically. Akridge 2 There are also many varieties of Depression such as Major Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (also known as S.A.D), Bipolar Disorder, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and even Persistent Depressive Disorder (National Institute of Mental Health). When Depression is seen and symptoms are detected, there is medicine or pills used for treatment that is called an Antidepressant. Antidepressants have a very narrow amount of serotonin, but that doesn't mean it doesn't do its task. They are mental medications given to anyone with depressive disorders to lighten the accouterment of the symptoms (Smith, Robinson). They are used to also treat Agitation, GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), and different types of eating disorders (National Institute of Mental Health). Depression is an incredibly serious matter that affects many people around the world. It is fairly common for many people to experience depression in some sort of way after a tragic event, such as the death of a family member or the severing of a long-term relationship. In fact, some may argue that these feelings are indeed appropriate for the time being. However, for some individuals, these feelings of despair and stress can last for weeks at a time or longer. While some who are not dealing with depression may interpret the feelings and the mindset of those who are struggling with major depression as a case of “the blues”, depression is undoubtedly a serious condition when left to itself without any type of support or medication. Beginning on Black Tuesday, October 29th, 1929, a total of 14 billion dollars was lost in America’s economy. Near the end of the week the 14 billion turned into a total of 30 billion dollars (The Great Depression Facts). Many events during the Stock Market Crash caused damage to the economy and lifestyle of the country, ending with recuperations from The Depression.
Depression is defined as, “a mood disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty with thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal thoughts or an attempt to commit suicide” (Merriam Webster). A close friend of mine battles depression and would describe it is, “a debilitating mood that makes it hard to get out of the bed in the morning, a desire to sleep all the time, inability to experience joy, and apathy towards life.” Due to its prevalent occurrence among several people groups throughout history, depression is known as the “common cold of mental illnesses” and has been called “the most widespread, serious, and costly psychiatric disease afflicting humankind today” (Fairchild). Depression affects people of all ages, races, and economic as well as religious backgrounds.
The Great Depression was the biggest and longest lasting economic crisis in U.S history. The Great depression hit the united states on October 29, 1929 When the stock market crashed. During 1929, everyone was putting in mass amounts of their income into the stock market. For every ten dollars made, Four dollars was invested into the stock market, thats forty percent of the individual's income (American Experience).
The US government’s role in the Great Depression has been very controversy. Different hypothesizes argued differently on the causes of the Great depression and whether the New Deal introduced by the government and President Roosevelt helped United States got out of the depression. I would argue that even though not the only factor, the US government did lead the country into the Great Depression and the New Deal actually delayed the recovery process. I will discuss five different factors (stock market crash, bank failure, tariff and tax cut, consumer spending and agriculture) that are commonly accepted to cause the depression and how the government linked to them. Furthermore, I will try to show how the government prolonged the depression in the United States by introducing the New Deal.

Some people can mix up depression with just having the blues because of a couple of bad days or even weeks. It is already said that depression affects about one sixth of the population or more (Doris, Ebmeier, Shajahan, 1999). Depression can happen in any age range from birth to death. The cause of depression is still obscure and becoming clear that a number of diverse factors are likely to be implicated, both genetic and environmental. Some causes are leading stressful lives, genetic factors, a previous depressive episode, and the personality trait neuroticism (Doris, et al., 1999).
