I am not, by any means, a Shakespeare, Stephen King, or John Grisham. It would take enormous amounts of time, practice, and effort to be considered a long shot at a Pulitzer Prize. Yet, I intend to progress my writing by setting more achievable goals, building on new ideas, and developing new skills. Also, I will use the advice of instructors and peers, and draw from previous writing experiences to mold this and future writing experiences. When I sit down to write, I must do so in a clean, well-organized, and well-lit area. The space must be free from distractions, such as the television or radio, so that I am able to focus and gather my thoughts. I like to begin my writings similar to the way William Stafford says he starts, "To get started I will accept anything that occurs to me." Writing down any thought that will help support and provoke more thoughts and ideas. When my thoughts become cloudy, I like to rise from my seat and walk around speaking out ideas to myself. I find this practice helps to jumpstart my brain activity and clear my foggy mind. Most of my writings have been those of the classroom assignment variety. The assignments consist of free writes, essays, research and term papers, but none of these come to mind as an experience worth noting. I never had a writing published or received any type of an award. I seldom did any wrtiting out of school, or writing for leisure as some might say. The bottom line is, I just don't have te time to write for leisure, with a full time job, attending night school, and raising two children, my day are consumed rapidly. If I did have the time to sit down and write, I'm not sure that I would write. I keep most of my thoughts to myself, not on paper. Although it does feel nice to express my thoughts and feelings onto the page. I can see my thoughts unfold, and I can organize them to develop new ideas. The only writings I do these days, outside of school, are memos and proposals for my occupation. I work in an office for an interior design center. These memos and proposals are not personal and are not very thought provoking. Therefore, do not serve many purposes in helping me to become a better
I have always considered writing to be a work in progress, and it constantly can be improved. I have always been devoted to writing. I loved to write stories as a child because I could use my creativity and create any type of character I desired. But I have struggled with writing as well. English has never been my forte. I have received A’s, B’s, C’s, and D’s on essays. I truly never found my voice in writing. In my high school, English teachers would give me mixed reviews on my writing. For example, in 9th grade my English teacher said I was organized with my thoughts, and my writing process was excellent. While in 10th,11th grade ,12th grade my teachers only said negative things about my essays. Not being a strong writer made me despise writing. Then I started to believe that writing is not important. I came to conclusion that writing is not important ,because I am going to be a Math major. I had the mindset that I am not a writer, and will never be a writer. But, my thoughts about writing changed when I started taking English at CSUN.
Baxter Magolda’s defines her theory of self-authorship as “the capacity to internally define a coherent belief system and identity that coordinates engagement in mutual relations with the larger world (2004, p.xxii). However, my ideal definition of self-authorship is a lifelong process in which you discover your individuality in order to create an understanding of yourself and the relationship you have with others. It is the process in which we evaluate how to define ourselves through our values, beliefs, and views of the world. It is the breakthrough point in our lives where we utilize the information we have absorbed from our childhood to creating our own understanding to reevaluate our perspective of reality.
Brainstorming can take many different forms. In the text, How To Write Anything, A Guide and Reference, John J. Ruszkiewicz and Jay T. Dolmage (2015) see brainstorming as an answer to a dilemma that many writers find themselves in. At times writers have a problem with narrowing down a topic. Brainstorming can be completed by writing down every possible topic, idea or facts. These thoughts can be written on paper, on sticky notes or even typed on a computer. The important aspect of this step is to be able to visualize all of the information. (Ruszkiewicz and Dolmage, 2015). “Freewriting” is a tool that can also be utilized. When freewriting, writers will just write on a topic nonstop for a period of time with no regard to how the writing is structured or formatted. Thirdly, online searches can be an effective method to brainstorm ideas. This third step is intended to get creative juices flowing and help to generate ideas for the writing project (Ruszkiewicz & Dolmage, 2015). This information can all be than used in your first
Writing has incessantly been a struggle throughout my short life. Within writing, everyone possesses the entirety of tools needed to produce greatness, but many lack in the manufacturing of the product. You may have the greatest ideas for novels and short stories, though be unable to truly express yourself within the confines of only words. This precise issue faces me on a daily basis. All these exceptional visions spinning in my mind, yet I have not been able to master the art of putting these visions onto paper. However, I do admit I have grown as a writer over this single semester, and have major goals set for myself, not only as a writer but also in my career field.

I frequently find myself writing at work. I work at Intermountain Medical Center as a Patient Care Tech and as a Health Unit Coordinator. I often am writing for myself, writing to my coworkers, other departments and also to my boss. I write and chart in the computer and send a lot of E-mails and type on a lot of different documents. I have noticed that as I write the longer I have been in this current job the more comfortable I am with colleagues and boss. The writing situation really does have an influence on the texts I produce.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say that I am one who enjoys writing as a hobby it definitely doesn’t bore me I just enjoy using my imagination while I read therefore if I am writing it would be on a specific topic or certain subject. I preferred to research my topic in-depth so that I may have a full understanding of what I will be writing about, I will be researching and thinking about both my side and if one exists the opposing sides views or arguments. I will then start to write any and all of my ideas and thoughts down, this is usually just a long free write so I usually use 2-3 sheets of paper during this step writing down anything that I want to say about the topic as well as any reliable sources I can refer to. Once I am completely satisfied with all that I have written down I will transfer it over to my computer where I will continue to add to my writing sample as I go this is where I start to

For as long as I can remember I have not enjoyed writing. My writing skills are weak. I find writing difficult, especially when asked to be a more ‘descriptive writer’. I also fear snakes and public speaking, but thank goodness those are not the issues at hand. Writing is challenging for me and I struggle with coming up with words, thoughts and ideas as to what to write about. I envy people who can write beautifully and are passionate about their writings.
When I think of writing I really like it.Why I like this is because I feel if you get a specific topic and you have to write off that you have so much wiggle room to make it your own and put your own twist on it.The best thing I have most likely ever written would be when I wrote about Metropolitan University in Denver about their building with all of the art and how it impacted on me and also how the art made me feel.(I got chosen to share mine in front of everyone).I always have something I don't want to write about every single year but even though I don't want to, but I always get through it and try my best
Written words can be preserved for long periods of time and can be read by those who stumble upon the written work; however, I write only when I feel it is necessary or is asked of me. I seldom feel the urge to get out of bed to write my thoughts of paper. A smaller form of writing that I choose to use every day is when I am messaging someone on my phone or I am making notes for something I have to do later.
My journey of many writing failures began when I first started college at IvyTech. I was majoring in Nursing so English Composition courses are a required prerequisite for the program. It was my second semester and I had received great grades and couldn’t wait to finish the spring semester so I could apply for the nursing program. Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
I don’t consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something that I need to say that I can’t just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of what I have done that day. It’s not so much about my feelings. I don’t really like talking about my feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt.
I have led a pretty simple life without much writing attached to it. I finished my high school experience by receiving my GED and soon after was fortunate enough to land a good blue collar job, working for Bell South, never being required to write a stitch. A couple of years ago I was laid off after the company sold to AT&T. I had to move back home with my parents. Regretting not going to college when I was young, I decided to enroll. So the writing experience that I will discuss in my paper will be this one told in the present. Let me tell you, it has been a negative one.
