Introduction Social Work is a helping profession finding way to help address problems and challenges for individuals from all walks of life. To work as a Social Worker you have to be able to control feelings and emotions. Emotional Intelligence is important because it’s important to be able to identify the source of your stress and recognize the role you play in creating or maintaining stress or any kind of negative emotion (Morrison, 2007). As a Social Work you work directly with individuals who are often in distress or under stress, and Social Workers as well become affected by the distress of others.

I don’t always think I work well always under pressure because I tend to easily make mistakes and experience anxiety. But on the flip side my motivation to get the job done is elevated. Either way the job gets done just maybe not in the most comfortable pace.

Emotional Awareness
Empathy
Someone who has compassion and recognizes others emotions and are able to connect with them on an emotional level describes empathy. An Emotional response has an impact one’s thinking ( Wang, Wilhite,Wyatt, Young, & Bloemker, 2012). I try to put aside my own viewpoint and try to see things from another’s person point of view. When I’m frustrated or upset I try to figure out why I’m experiencing these feelings, examine my own attitude and body language and ask questions.

Reflection
It is possible for people to become more emotional competent. I understand why it’s important to learn or be trained on the principles for developing emotional competence. Understanding what pushes people to edge and developing positive and healthy working relationships are important. Working in the helping profession it’s important that you’re able to interact and communicate effectively. Emotional Intelligence allow for a individuals in a work place work together to maximum effectiveness creating organization
