The Last Dog “The Last Dog”, is a great story with an amazing, and true moral about following your instincts. It is written by Katherine Patterson. Although this story is an obvious fantasy, it can be used in real life to make difficult choices. Some choices are hard to make; however, sometimes we just know what the right choice is. Likewise, Brock instantly knew what to do in order to save Brog, his dog. Personally, this story was interesting to me because of the adoring affection Brock showed towards his loyal friend. The story starts when Brock, the main character, decides to go outside of the dome, or the uniform environment separate from the “so called” wasteland in the outside world. He was born in a test tube along with many other pod fellows. Knowledge of the outside world was based on what the virtual books told them. Curiosity hit Brock when he discovered a few fairy tales in the dome library. The wonders inside them led him to wonder what the world was like today. Brog and Brock ended up living together in a world with green trees and delicious water; however, “The Last Dog”, was set in the distant future controlled by a uniform environment. When Brock said “I won’t hurt you”, to the puppy he was excited that he met his long last friend like in the stories he read, Huck Finn and M.C. Higgins. Brock could not let his dog be poked and prodded at until he could not take it anymore. Also, in my opinion, knowing your feelings on a screen can help you cope with what you really need and what is not necessary. As an example, Brock knew that he needed something to fill the void in his heart and the solution was a cute and loveable dog. I think that all Brock needed was a little bit of
