“Real men don’t cry, only wimps do!” Throughout our lives we have each been subjected to comments as to what we should and should not do and how we should act based on our gender. How does one define gender? Are they really defining “gender” or sex? “Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that tend to define men and women.” According to the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, gender refers to a description of masculinity or femininity. “Although we normally refer to gender when we are talking about people or classifying them into a specific group, there are other things that can be classified as gendered.” Such as the things one says, their emotional outlook, personal characteristics, organizations, power structures, …show more content…

People face the disadvantages of gender inequality through healthcare, education, political representation, labor market, and etc. As stated by Women on Boards and Chartered Secretaries of Australia, “Gender equality is not a woman’s issue, it is a human issue. It affects us all.” Gender inequality still exists simply because of power and status. Although women have been making changes over the past twenty years or so, it’s still not enough to get out of gender inequality. According to an article, full-time working women earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns (White House Government). That wage gap is simply saying that men are entitled to more than the women received. Some do not realize the problems that are caused by the wage gap between women and men. Women are making up nearly half the workforce but they are still bringing home less money. By them bringing home less money and with the increase in prices for goods, they barely have enough to cover their needs. The workplaces need to adapt. They need to look at men and women as a whole. We need to measure women for they can bring intellectually and their talents and stop looking at just their physical appearance. We are lessening the woman and continuing to allow them to feel inferior. Women are just as smart as men as far as educational achievement. I think with the workplace not adapting and then with women carrying the load of the household, that is what makes it hard for them to come up. The biggest factors in gender inequality are the gender stereotypes that have been placed on women and men. Stereotypes are hard to break and although we try to change them we still tend to engage in stereotyping from time to time.
