Imagine yourself as a military personnel working on your naval base like any normal day. One minute you are calm and peaceful, another you break out into a brutal battle. Bullets flying, people dying, chaos all around you. In this article I am going to tell you about the event that had taken place in 1941. By the end of this, you will be able to see this event through the eyes many people who were there to witnessed this tragedy.

Today, December 7, 1941 has become one of the most tragic events that have taken place in history. The Japanese has attacked our naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It wasn’t only the military personnel who were affected but it was also their families including the civilians living on the island of Hawaii. “The casualty list includes 2,335 servicemen and 68 civilians killed, with 1,178 wounded. Included are 1,104 men aboard the Battleship USS Arizona killed after a 1,760-pound air bomb penetrated into the forward magazine causing catastrophic explosions” (Japanese Bomb Pearl Harbor)

On December 6, no one suspected the horror that was going to struck then the following day. “The day before the attack, U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt makes a final appeal to the Emperor of Japan for peace. There is no reply. Late this same day, the U.S. code-breaking service begins intercepting a 14-part Japanese message and deciphers the first 13 parts, passing them on to the President and Secretary of State.” (Japanese Bomb Pearl Harbor) The last part was meant to be delivered before the attack but was finally received 30 minutes before the bombing.

...should have known how to respond to these unexpected outbreaks. But what can we do about the past? The only thing we should be focus on now, is how should we improve on future surprises and to prevent any more damage to our country. We are all one, and together we should help this world be a better place.

In conclusion, the Pearl Harbor event was devastating for everyone. Many of those who were on duty lived the ghastly event. Even though lives were lost that day, we should carry on and learn from our past. This day in history might be known as the day of failure, but we must never let it bring us down. The thousands of lives lost that day will always be remembered for their heroic effort to protect this country we all live and love. If in the future another surprise attack is planned, then we will be able to know the right from wrong and not let our country down.
