I was asked by my parents, to pick the state Missouri, or the state Virginia to move to because they got a job offer to the same corporation, and was going to get paid the same amount of income roll in either state. After my research, I came up with the state that I think would fit my family and me best. If I had to choose between Missouri or Virginia, I would choose Virginia because of many reasons. Virginia has better education, jobs, and economy. Virginia also has better activities, attractions, and culture. Finally, Virginia has more historical events that impact lives each day on how our nation first got started. That is why, in my opinion, Virginia is a better place to live environmentally.
First of all, Virginia has better education, jobs, and economy that are well driven to the work force that I am leaning to in the future years. Virginia is ranked 26th overall in their academic achievements in education (alec). Jobs that drive the economy include: small kitchen appliances, computer software, and high-technology jobs in bioscience and communications. Virginia is a place, where technology runs high, and physical labor runs low now due to the change in technology ( Tougas 20). Other jobs that Impact their economy include: education, health services, finance, insurance, real estate, leisure, and government jobs (thomasjeffersoninist). Virginia’s crime rate is also lower than Missouri’s crime rate. There has been 29,511 burglary reports, 138,398 thief reports, 9,076 motor vehicle thief reports, 314 murder reports, 4,706 robbery reports, and 9,092 assault reports (neighborhoodscout). Virginia, being a large state proposes that representation should be based on the state’s population. This means that the more citizens that populate a state can send more delegates to represent in congress. This would put larger states at an advantage because larger states naturally have a larger population. Therefore by having a larger population, they can send more representatives and consequently have a “larger” voice in the legislature. Ultimately, the smaller states would not accept or agree to Virginia’s plan because they would be at a disadvantage since they have fewer citizens. Within its plan, they believe in a bicameral legislature where there are two separate chambers in congress where the people elect the lower house and the lower house would vote to elect the upper house. I started to like living in Las Vegas, I was able to get a job right after graduation working at the McCarren Airport at Hudson News Group working as a sales associate, I didn’t have to stress too much about traffic or gas and if I wanted to I could move into my own place and offer it. With all those positive factors that still couldn’t keep me away from California.

So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective.” (Stone, 1962) The words stated prior by William Clement Stone have never proved to be more accurate. A person’s place of living, whether chosen, suggested, or forced, has a great affect on their future years to come. Depending on a person’s environment, they can succeed or fail; linger around or progress. The further proceedings do not serve the purpose to “knock” or bring shame or favor to one geographical area. Though every state has its pros and cons, one may highly favor one state over the other. In my case, I fancy Texas over Maryland. The topics that had a heavy impact on my decision were the similarities and/or differences in education, food, hospitality, medical care, and history.
Starting off, California has a huge drawback of have various natural disasters. Down in the south coast of the United States, they get assorted earthquakes, wildfires, and droughts. These mean more expensive insurance payments. Henceforth, the cost of living is high and I would be far away from my family in Canada. California’s living costs are 50% higher than average prices and the USA does not have free healthcare, plus I would have to take a plane or long drive to visit my family. I am a native of Florida who lived in the state for the majority of my life. I visited the state of Texas on numerous occasions, if I had to choose one of the two states to retire I would first outweigh the difference between the two. My decision will be based on cultural climate, recreational activities and economics.
Just like their religions, Massachusetts gave more power to the people and Virginia gave power to England. In the New England Handout, Mailer describes the difference further, “Unlike in Virginia where a governor is elected from a faraway company in London, and after 1624, by the Crown itself, the ‘freemen’ of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire elect their own governors.” (1) This information describes the contrast in the way a governor gets elected. In Massachusetts, the “freemen”, men who own land, get to vote for their governor, while Virginia’s governor gets appointed by the crown. Virginia’s government also consisted of the Governing Council, rich elites controlling everything, and the House of Burgesses, upper middle-class landowners. The main reason the governments of these colonies differ is the fact that the charter of Virginia created by the Virginia Company resides in England, or in other words it is controlled by the crown. On the other hand, Massachusetts’s charter, created by the Massachusetts Bay Company, resides in the colony, so the colony self-governs itself. This brings forth another comparison of the two colonies; the reason why they were founded.

Topping the list of the most dangerous states in US in 2014, Tennessee has the country’s worst violent crime rate. With over 40,000 violent crimes in 2014, the state’s crime rate appears to be climbing higher. Statistics reveal that Tennessee’s metropolitan areas like Memphis and Nashville are major hubs of crime. Like other states in this list, major contributing factors of higher crime rates in Tennessee appear to be poverty and low education levels.

The nation’s incarceration rate is up to the criminal behavior of its residents and the policy choices its representatives of the criminal justice system makes. One major issue affecting many people trying to make the decision on where to live is their quality of life in either extreme. Health, education, transportation are three major concerns that many consider. In a city, pollution surrounds you wherever you step whether on the streets of a busy financial district or on the lawn of a large park. Pollution could possibly cause health problems later in life. In the country, pollution is scarce. Fresh air, rolling green hills, a few pieces of litter here and there but pretty much everything is clean, and wow! No smog, you can see the stars! In the country, childhood education, kindergarten through twelfth grade, is significantly better than in a large city; smaller class sizes and larger budgets create excellent learning environments. In cities, public schools are often plagued with very large classes packed into small spaces. Teachers with low pay, and little or no dedication are thrown into classrooms to teach, resulting in poor education. Transportation is very accessible in city environments. Public transportation, by way of subways, busses and ferries, are cheap and easy ways of getting around a metropolis, whether going out to work, school, or for a night on the town. In the country, everyone needs to have access to his or her own vehicle. A commute to work or school is about an average of forty-five minutes!
Richland has more to offer, in general. For example, as I have already mentioned, it’s cheaper to live in Richland, the weather is nicer, the housing expenses are cheaper, the traffic isn't as stressful as Seattle traffic, crime level is lower, and believe it or not the health expenses are cheaper, food prices are lower, and gas prices are cheaper.
