Friendship. What is the meaning of a true friendship? Who is that one true friend or friends? Whether it is a person’s pet, spouse, or sisters, friendship is that special bond between two or more individuals that share a mutual affection. While there is no limit on how, where, or even what the friendship is form or function, friends make everyone happy; most of the time. Sometimes it is hard to find that one person who a person can form a friendship with, however Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley had some bumps and bruises in the beginning of their trio friendship. Ultimately, with their special trio bond, all three of them have a friendship to worth a lifetime.
J.K. Rowling expresses how important friendship is within the first the first novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, due to the importance of Harry overcoming any task that is put forth upon him. Before coming to Hogwarts, Harry was a lonely child. Not only does he not have a supportive loving family, but no friends to communicate with. The only family Harry has is his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and Cousin Dudley, neither of them supporting Harry in any way. After becoming a student at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, Harry gains plenty of friends within his house, Gryffindor. Most importantly, Harry gains two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who supports and sticks with Harry from the beginning to the end. However, Harry’s friendship with Hermione and Ron is not a typical everyday friendship. Hermione is the smart and overachiever and Ron is not the brightest, but his loyalty keeps his friendship with Harry strong. With the different traits coming from each of the three, their personality is what keeps them together.

...part of this friendship has built tremendously over the obstacles the three of them has accomplished together. “…Books! And cleverness! There are more important things – friendship and bravery…” (Hermione, Sorcerer’s…287). As Hermione stated her quote, it gave Harry some encouragement that he will defeat Voldemort, again. Harry then proceeds to go get the stone from Voldemort. With friends like Hermione and Ron, Harry has nothing to worry about for the rest of his Hogwarts adventures.
The power of friendship will never die between Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Through all the obstacles the three of them have accomplished together, it shows that their friendship is worth a lifetime. Not only has Harry, Ron, and Hermione helped each other out with their first year at Hogwarts, they each have been through much more than what any other first year student at Hogwarts has.
Friendship is an unbreakable bond between two people and contains loyalty and love. In the story Chains, Isabel finds herself in grand friendships that play throughout the story. She showed how devoted she was towards Lady Lockton, Curzon, and Ruth by being there for them during tough times. In the end, friendship is the light through the darkness, powerful and important.
A friendship is a bond shared with another person, typically of common interests. A friend is honest, loyal, faithful, and trustworthy. It's someone you can share secrets, memories, fears, and dreams with. They stand by you despite arguments or disputes that might arise. Friendships can bring joy, as well as pain; friends want the best for each other, and sometimes sacrifices must be made. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck speaks of the advantages and pitfalls to a friendship.
It just depends on who you are. It is shown many times throughout the book. It is shown with George and Lennie, with Candy, and with Crooks. They all have the same dream, or goal of getting some of their own land. Friendship brings, and keeps people together, it changes people’s actions (usually for the better), and gives people courage to stand up for themselves. But that doesn’t just happen in this book, but in real life as well. The powerful aspect of friendship changes people’s
To have someone that can support you through all of life’s transitions is the greatest feeling in the world. A friend that supports another friend in good times and bad is truly a friend, and “Thus when we find a friend who will not leave us in his fortune or desert us in our misfortune, but remains serious, stable and constant in either situation, we must consider him a rare friend indeed, and very nearly godlike,” (Cicero 123). Friends of this nature are rare and special because they see their own friend as worthy and equal to themselves. And another quote from Cicero that speaks of the nature of true friendship is, “Thus it seems to me that friendship arises more from our nature than from our needs, and that we choose our friends because of an inclination of our souls and a sense of love rather than because we think they might be useful to us,” (Cicero 111). This exemplifies true friendship because it is out of love that we choose our friends rather than the gain we get from befriending them. This kind of friendship leads to true friendship because it was created out of love or admiration for another. John and Bernard’s friendship in Brave New World, was created for Bernard’s benefit more than admiration for each other. Bernard likes that John’s exotic background boosts his own fame and amiability in the World State society. Bernard does not genuinely care for John, as shown in this dialogue between two when John refuses to meet with
He has helped his friends in many ways, such as when he saved Hermione from the twelve foot ogre. “There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them. (Rowling 160) Also when Draco threw Neville’s memory ball into the air and Harry flies and catches it. Also his friends have also helped him a lot. When they were trying to stop “Snape” Ron and Hermione helped with each of their strong points to get through the chambers. An example is when Ron was willing to sacrifice his life at the wizard chess chamber. “You see it, don't you, Harry? Once I make my move, the Queen will take me. Then you're free to check the King.” (Rowling 204) Also the teachers have shown different views on Harry. Professor Snape showed dislike towards Harry while the other professors have liked Harry Potter.
Aristotle pointed out that friendship is a thing most important in nowadays life, since without friends no one can survive. Friendship to be a necessity to live. Also he argued that friendship is a key to human happiness ,that our friends can inspire on us positively ,share their experience and help us when we need them. The most important fact for Aristotle is to have a real friendship , people have to spend lots of time together, became very close to each other.
Are friends the best resources when in need? Yes, no? Well in these stories they are. Like in Harry Potter, he used his friends all the time like when he is wondering Voldemort is still really still alive who are the people that he comes to…his friends. Or in The Maze Runner Thomas when thomas is wondering about if he should go out in the maze and face the greevier’s. Who are the people that he goes to...his friends! In these two stories Harry Potter and The Maze Runner there are some similarities, but there are also some differences.
I would define friendship as complete trust and love between two people. Many people believe that this kind of behavior is reciprocated between two individuals without any expectations. A friend is someone who also provides you with support and whom you can rely on to celebrate special moments with. A friend also comes with many great attributes; such as loyalty, honesty, compassion, trust, and morality. Today’s friend is viewed as someone who shares happiness, common values, history, and equality with another. For example, Aristotle and Cicero both wrote dialogues about friendship and its significance on mankind. Therefore, the key issues that will be discussed are: their views on the similarities of friendship, the differences between friends,
Friendship, it can be for pleasure, money, or self gain, but the friendship that is the most scarce is that of a true friendship. True friendship is that which “stands as a challenge to the tenor of our times”.(May) True friendship is shared mutually between two people that are open and intimate. When you share personal details and experiences in your life to one another and trust one another, you develop a true friendship that is not about money or personal gain, but about being involved with the life of another human being. An example of one of these friendships is the friendship between Lennie Small and George Milton in the book Of Mice and Men.
Friendship is a great thing to have throughout your lifetime. In the novella Of Mice and Men friendship is a greatly promoted theme. The two main characters George and Lennie were very close friends who had each other’s backs. George had promised Lennie’s aunt that he would look after Lennie because he wasn’t exactly right in the head, and had the mindset of a young child. Since then George has always taken care of Lennie no matter the circumstances. Candy is also another character in the story with a white, old, and sick dog as his companion that he’s had for a very long time. Friendship can be between any two people no matter their qualities, in life and even in death.
Friendship is when one person has a strong bond with another, the power of friendship is when one friend does something exponential for another, even if it means they risk something important in their lives. For example, in The Outsiders, Johnny saved Ponyboy from the falling lumber, he saved Pony, but at the same time he risked something of own, his life. After Dally’s failed attempt of taking back Johnny from the grips of Death, Dally couldn’t live without Johnny. So when Johnny died, Dally had no reason to live. In the novel, The Outsiders author S.E Hinton suggests that the power of friendship is the strongest and most reliable bond one can have, and it stays with people forever.
Sticking with a friend persists as huge sacrifice. It can as simple as staying with them while they are waiting for a ride or as tough as staying with them if they have cancer. Having a close friend at your side helps to ease pain or take away the tears. The members of fellowship all had to sacrifice leaving their homes for a ring, leaving their family and other friends besides the ones that they have made now. Gandalf gave the ultimate sacrifice, his life, so that the party could go on without worrying about the
My personal definition of "friendship" is a feeling or emotion expressed in such a way that another feels wanted and important, a relationship between a person or persons where everyone has some companion to talk to when their in need of one. I would define friends as people whom you can have several types of relations with and feel several emotions for that person. Someone that one might go to in time of need. However, friendships differ between people. For example, the friendship that someone may have between them and their parents would be different than the friendship they might have with someone their age. There are many different friendships that people have. Friendships can exist between best friends, friends, lovers, children, parents, siblings, and many more. All of these differ in some way.
Growing up in school you have your friends in 1st, then in Jr. High, and then when you get to high school you might not even know or see your friends from 1st grade anymore. For the few people who’s had a friend from 1st grade till college I think that someone they need to hold on to because if they stuck with you through all them year I know they’re there for the right reason and there not just there for a season. As Elizabeth Dunphy says, “It’s the little things that matter, that add up in the end, with the priceless thrilling magic found only in a friend.”
One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.
