What is Domestic Violence?

Violence is not a new thing, for centuries human beings have been violent one towards another. We as humans have to deal with different types of violence in every day life and some types of violence that we may experience are; child abuse, spousal abuse or domestic violence, violence directed towards elderly, sexual assault and harassment, professional misconduct, teen violence, murder is a act of violence, stalking in some way may be classified as type of violence. It is in human nature to do violence one or another way. Domestic violence happens between individuals who are dating, couples that are married, separated or divorced, also domestic violence occur in heterosexual as well gay and lesbian relationships. All social, religious, ethic groups experience domestic violence in one or another way. “Domestic Violence is the Leading Cause of Injury to Women between the Ages of 15 and 44 in the United States - More Than Car Accidents, Muggings, and Rapes Combined”. (Gelles. R, 1995)

So, what is the domestic violence, many may ask? “Domestic Violence is a pattern of coercive behavior that is used by a person against family or household members or dating partners to gain power or control over the other party in a relationship.”(Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence)

Domestic violence does not happen over night, it may take years before a victim come forward and express that she or he is being abused by their soul mate. As I mentioned before victims of domestic violence can be either women or man, statistically larger number victims of domestic abuse are women between 15 and 44 years of age. ... Well, some victims may succeed by leaving and seeking a help, another may go back and in worse case scenario loose their life. Domestic violence is horrible crime, which is unreported yet dangerous for global society.
