Weight Loss Options Obesity is a major epidemic today in the United States. However, there are many options for one to consider when one tries to lose weight. Many who need to lose weight do not have the willpower to do it alone. This is why programs have been developed to help encourage and motivate society to eat healthier and exercise. Unfortunately, it is hard to find a weight-loss program that is not expensive or detrimental to one’s health. Some choices are: the economical diets, the slender diets, or the nutritional route. These all have costs and benefits, but it is crucial to examine each diet option to determine which is best. The most crucial aspects to consider are; what is the healthiest and what is the least expensive way to lose weight. Even so, some people want to take the easiest path to weight loss, so they invest in a pill or an operation. Weight loss pills are for those who refuse to budge in their lifestyle choices. Pills can cost a fortune and can have long-term consequences. Surgical procedures are often effective, but not recommended for the typical person. There are three main categories of weight-loss options; one is inexpensive, one is healthy and one is both healthy and inexpensive. Those in desperation may only worry about their success in losing weight. After all that is the goal of the program. Imagine being thin and unhealthy; possibly developing diabetes. Then consider being emaciated and broke, left alone to keep the weight off. Are these better alternatives? The first type of weight loss strategies is; the economical detrimental diets. This approach is economical because it is inexpensive and detrimental because it does not focus on health benefits. Most of these program... ... middle of paper ... ...2010. . “…So many people want to know about diets because so many people are going to try them, but they don’t work … some weight will be lost temporarily.” Harvey Diamond, author, was speaking. “But let me ask you something – do you want to be healthy temporarily? No. But you want to lose weight temporarily. They’re – They have failures built right into them.”
The weight loss industry is a multi-billion dollar machine, perpetually fueled by not only new information, but also data that have remained true for decades. Although it is unsurprising that the human body will lose weight when it expends more calories than it consumes, new findings lead to several alternative diets and weight loss methods that gain much more popularity than the basic concept of eating less and exercising more. If someone wanted to shed a few pounds what would be the better path to take? There is the healthy way to lose weight and then there is the unhealthy way. One way ensures positive results by properly taking the necessary steps to achieve a desired goal weight. It stats by quitting bad habits and introducing the many healthy alternatives. On the contrary, the other path one could take will most certainly be a painful, potentially traumatizing path that will sabotage the mental and physical wellbeing of all who choose to take it. Unfortunately many people choose to take unhealthy measures to lose weight. There is

Many diets, especially those which require payment in some form will boost great results. However, many studies done have determined that no one type of diet is better than others when it comes to lasting weight loss and managing health and wellness (Fahey, Insel, & Roth, 2009)
Obesity is a growing health problem and leading cause of preventable deaths in U.S. As a health care professional it is our position statement that obesity should be considered as a disease. Over weight along with obese are also at risk for many diseases. However, it is our recommendation that expenses related to weight reduction program should only be paid to cure a specific obesity related disease. Medicare and insurance companies should not make payment for treatment of obesity unrelated to a medical condition such as improving a person’s general appearance and well being. As treatment in this context has not been determined to be reasonable and necessary. Various kinds of programs such as nutrition education and importance of physical activity must be offered to over weight individuals. Also we must adapt a sensitive approach to change our national perspective of obesity and over weight from an issue of appearance to an issue of health concern.

In 2010 the center for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) calculated that as much as 34.9 % of adults in the United States are Obese (Obesity). At this rate it is estimated that at least 3/4 of adults in the United States will be obese or overweight by the year 2020(Obesity). The United States has made great efforts to reduce this percentage such as exercise programs and promoting healthy eating (Published). Diets consisting of a balance between complex carbohydrates and good proteins bring the best results in weight loss, despite a slower result than low carbohydrate diets such as the Atkins diet. Weight loss is accomplished by burning more calories than one consumes. With regards to calories, there are two approaches between the two diets being examined that lead to weight loss. The logic behind the Atkins diet is that by eating fewer carbohydrates, insulin levels remain at a steadier degree and cravings are subsided, thereby causing people to consume fewer calories and in turn lose weight. Despite the loss in weight however, the substitutes for these simple carbohydrates recommended by the Atkins diet are high fat, high protein foods such as butter, cheese, and meats. These foods although when eaten exclusively can lead to weight loss, there are other health problems associated with this method of dieting. An alternative to substituting simple carbohydrates with high ...

While most Americans are undoubtedly aware of health concerns in terms of weight nationwide, most of them don’t fathom the extent of this epidemic until clear-cut numbers are presented – and those numbers are intimidating. While in 1960 the number was 45%, in 2008, 68% of American adults were overweight and half of those who were overweight had already reached obesity. In his article Beating Obesity, Marc Ambinder stated that “In 2010, we still rank as the world’s fattest developed nation, with an obesity rate more than double that of many European nations.” In July of 2011, Annie Summers published an article in which the statistics presented 79% of the whole American population, not just adults, as overweight or obese. Companies of many different categories have often focused on promoting weight loss, but throughout the past decade, various organizations have intensified...
