We Must Not Allow Wealthy Donors to Control U.S. Politics

According to an annual survey done by Berlin-Based organization Transparency International, the world’s least corrupt nations in 2013 were Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand. The United States on the other hand landed in 19th place. (Infoplease.com)It’s not surprising to see the United States, land of opportunity, has dropped in ranking. Even every time when we watch the news or political channel, more and more scandals of corrupt politicians are revealed. Based off the citizens for responsibility and ethics in Washington or CREW, a non-profit legal watchdog group dedicated in holding public officials accountable for their actions, about seventeen members of the past congress member were listed for most corrupt. The political scandals we hear about are usually swept under the rug but affect large numbers of the populations through insane budget cuts and constrains. Middle and lower socials class are the ones who take the hits in economical inflations and loss of employment. Such examples in high rates of unemployment and increase in oil prices were seen in the economic disaster in 2008 that we are slowly recovering. One particular writer Robert Reich, who served three national administrations as a secretary of labor for Clinton, demonstrated this through his book Aftershock the broke bargain of the economic crisis from 2008and possible solutions for it. In order to fix our economy and prevent future crises, we must have political reform in campaign finances, controlled lobbying and thorough background checks.
